Job Responsibilities

We are looking for a special education teacher for the adapted primary school at Örtagårdsskolan. You will be the class teacher for students in grades 1-3. The students have an intellectual disability and follow the curriculum for adapted primary school. Your role includes planning, implementing, and evaluating the educational work based on the school's governing documents and the students' needs and interests, both individually and together with the team you belong to. The class teachers have a good meeting structure for co-planning and collegial development.

You will collaborate with other school staff to ensure a good learning and working environment. You will be part of a team with teaching colleagues, primary school teachers in after-school care, and teaching assistants. The learning environment in the adapted primary school is made accessible through clear pedagogical methods and differentiated instruction. Visual support is used in learning situations and social contexts, and alternative augmentative communication (AAC) is utilized based on both individual and group needs.

Qualifications

You are a primary school teacher and a special education teacher with a focus on intellectual disabilities. You have experience working in an adapted primary school focusing on subjects. It is important that you have good digital skills and have worked with Widget Go and Inprint in your teaching. Since our students need support in their communication, we want you to be experienced in using sign language as support, TAKK. It is significant that you have experience using various forms of visual support and alternative teaching tools in your instruction. In the adapted primary school, you will encounter students with neuropsychiatric disabilities (NPF). Therefore, you need to have a good understanding of students with autism and ADHD, as well as how to work in a low-arousal manner. You should also be experienced in handling students with epilepsy.

You have a good understanding of the school's governing documents and apply them in your daily work. You are creative and can adapt your approach and pedagogical methods based on the individual student's or student group's needs. You develop the educational activities to be both fun, inspiring, and challenging. We expect you to see each student from a holistic perspective and have a positive view of students. You create good relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. As a person, you are calm, stable, and attentive, with the ability to create a calm environment for the students. You are accustomed to working independently and making decisions, but can also collaborate in a team. Working with our students means that no day is the same. Daily circumstances determine what requirements and activities work for the students. Therefore, you need to be flexible and able to adapt your working methods according to the needs of the organization. It is essential that you master good Swedish in both speech and writing.

About the Workplace

Örtagårdsskolan is a primary school for grades F-9 and has an adapted primary school for grades 1-9. We have approximately 500 students in total. The adapted primary school consists of 52 students studying subjects or subject areas. The after-school care in the adapted primary school has about 20 students, and our short-term supervision has 10 students. Our multicultural learning environment is characterized by language-developing teaching in all activities. Close cooperation between staff and school management ensures that it is clear to everyone that we work in a common and goal-oriented direction.
