The surgical area is cross-county with clinics and departments in both Gävle and Hudiksvall. Here you will find specialists in urology, vascular surgery, plastic surgery, upper and lower gastro, breast, and endocrine surgery. All departments work in care pairs within an organization called PNV (patient-centered care). The work model means that staff have more time for and with patients. Working with us in the surgical department provides you with a solid foundation in the nursing assistant profession and the opportunity to develop in the field of surgery.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

You should be able to work independently to meet the individual care needs of patients. In dialogue with the patient/relatives, you provide support for optimal participation and strive for person-centered care.

As a nursing assistant with us, you will among other things:

• provide support during meal situations (food and fluids) and with personal hygiene
• ensure that the patient receives necessary activity to prevent postoperative complications
• identify and document risks related to pressure sores, falls, and malnutrition
• monitor, assess, and document vital parameters
• observe problems and changes in the patient's condition
• report observations to the responsible nurse
• work according to hygienic principles and routines.

After introduction and guidance, you will be able to perform specific nursing care that occurs within surgical nursing. We operate around the clock, which means that as a nursing assistant with us, you will work days, evenings, nights, and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS

The role of nursing assistant with us places high demands on independence and that you feel secure in your professional role. Furthermore, you need to be communicative and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. Your most important asset is your nursing competence, but also your commitment to the patients of the organization and working forward in a positive spirit. You have the ability to take responsibility for the department's function and development, and to collaborate with other professional groups.

In the role of nursing assistant, you should:

• be a trained nursing assistant
• have experience in somatic surgical nursing.

For this position, it is advantageous if you have experience in surgical emergency care and if you have experience as a mentor for students.

Information about the title nursing assistant: As of July 1, 2023, the title nursing assistant will become a protected professional title. This means that you will need a certificate from the National Board of Health and Welfare to use the title nursing assistant within healthcare and social services. You can apply for the certificate from the National Board of Health and Welfare. If you do not have a certificate, you can continue to work in healthcare and social services, but with a different title than nursing assistant. In Region Gävleborg, this means that the title in your employment contract will be care assistant until your certificate is submitted.
