The Swedish Maritime Administration is responsible for providing safe and modern waterways with service around the clock. If you are interested in making a difference in terms of both the environment and safety, then the job as a VTS operator/Traffic Operator is for you.
Responsibilities as a VTS operator at the Swedish Maritime Administration
As a VTS operator, you will work with modern technology to monitor and provide information to vessels about traffic conditions, any errors in fairway markings, and other obstacles in the waterways. You will also work to provide relevant traffic information to vessels in designated VTS areas. You thus have an important responsibility in minimizing the risk of maritime and environmental accidents and incidents in the area. Your tools include a VTS system with AIS and radar information, VHF radio, and computer. You will also have continuous contact with customers via phone and email.
The work is performed at irregular hours both during the day and at night.
Responsibilities as a Traffic Operator at the Swedish Maritime Administration
As a Traffic Operator, you will work with modern technology to assess, produce, and issue navigation warnings via VHF, MF, and Navtex. You will also receive and register nautical error reports of maritime safety devices (SSA). The work also includes following up on actions from maintenance responsible parties and sending out information internally. Furthermore, you will act as a national coordinator for incident reporting and monitor maritime traffic according to applicable regulations. You will work with monitoring TSS areas and provide support for IT preparedness and the reporting system MSW Reportal (Maritime Single Window) after office hours. Your tools include AIS, radar, VHF, and computer. You will also have continuous contact with customers via phone and email.
The work as a Traffic Operator is performed at irregular hours both during the day and at night.
Currently, the work is performed at the station in Södertälje, but within a year the operations will be moved to Stockholm, Värtahamnen.
Who are you?
To be considered for the role of VTS/Traffic Operator, you must have a maritime captain's degree. You also need to have good computer skills and the ability to express yourself well in both Swedish and English, both verbally and in writing. Experience as a watchkeeping officer is an advantage.
We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities. The work involves many external and internal contacts, so openness, service, communication skills, and teamwork are very important qualities. You must also have good planning and multitasking abilities, be stress-resistant, and be meticulous in the critical and often rapid decisions that need to be made in the role of VTS/Traffic Operator.
The position may require Swedish citizenship. A security check with a background check may be conducted before an employment offer.

How and when?
This recruitment concerns a temporary employment as needed that should be filled as soon as possible and will last for a maximum of 12 months from the start date.
