Department of Health and Rehabilitation

The Department of Health and Rehabilitation is responsible for education and research in occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech therapy, and audiology. The department aims to conduct its activities with very high quality.

The Unit for Physiotherapy

The Unit for Physiotherapy is an active educational and research environment with a vision to continue developing the physiotherapy of the future. The unit conducts education at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. The Unit for Physiotherapy conducts interdisciplinary research with national and international collaboration. Both education and research take place in close cooperation with healthcare.

Physiotherapy with a focus on neurological rehabilitation

Subject Description

Physiotherapy encompasses knowledge of and studies of the human in motion and how movement, awareness of the body and movement, habits, and life patterns affect human health. Physiotherapy in neurological rehabilitation is a large and growing field given the demographic development with an aging population.

Job Responsibilities

The position includes working in an educational environment focused on student-centered learning. Responsibilities include teaching and supervising at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels within the subject, with a particular emphasis on neurological rehabilitation where the applicant's professional experience should be applied in relevant teaching situations. Teaching includes course responsibility, course administration, and supervision of students at all educational levels. Instruction will be in Swedish. Responsibilities also include participating in the institution's activities through administrative assignments in committees, following developments within the subject and societal developments in the field. Conducting research and contributing to the development of the research subject of physiotherapy, supervising doctoral students, and actively seeking external funding are included.

The successful candidate is expected to have acquired proficiency in Swedish, both written and spoken, at least at level B2 according to the CEFR, no later than two years after the start of employment. The University of Gothenburg will offer Swedish courses as part of the employment.

Eligibility

Eligibility for employment as a teacher is regulated by the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's employment regulations. A doctoral degree in physiotherapy or what the employer deems equivalent, along with demonstrated pedagogical skills, is required. In addition to the minimum requirements for a university lecturer, the applicant must be a licensed physiotherapist and have clinical experience in neurological rehabilitation. The ability to teach in Swedish, Norwegian, or Danish is a requirement.

Employment

Permanent employment with a full-time (100%) position. Start date by agreement. Placement at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology.

Other Information

If the applicant lacks formal higher education pedagogical training according to the University of Gothenburg's guidelines, the applicant is expected to have started higher education pedagogical training or acquired equivalent knowledge within one year of the employment start date. The assessment of such pedagogical qualifications will be conducted in a special order in accordance with the rector's decision.
