Project Manager for Guidance on Nuclear Energy Facilities
The transition of Sweden's energy system is a crucial part of the journey towards a fossil-free and sustainable society. Both nationally and at the EU level, there are ambitious goals, and rapid developments are taking place towards industries with low carbon emissions, circular resource flows, and minimized environmental impact. The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency plays a supportive and driving role in this work and aims to achieve these goals, among other things, by participating in permit assessments, providing guidance, and supporting planning work.
In a new government assignment, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency will develop guidance on effective permitting processes for new nuclear energy facilities. We are looking for someone who wants to drive and develop the agency's work with guidance and planning for the transition to fossil-free energy and act as the project manager for this new guidance assignment.
Your Responsibilities
Your responsibilities include collaborating with other stakeholders to develop, produce, and communicate guidance and planning materials. This involves communicating and explaining positions and processes in an educational manner, as well as following the development of technology, regulations, and policy instruments within the framework of the agency's issues. A significant initial task is to lead and participate in the government assignment to develop guidance for environmental code assessments of new nuclear power. The guidance will cover the handling of permit cases according to the environmental code for both large-scale nuclear reactors and small modular reactors (SMRs), and the assignment will continue until spring 2027.
You will also participate in the unit's and department's other work, with a particular focus on energy transition. An important part is to contribute to effective environmental assessments, disseminate knowledge about environmental impact and planning as tools for green transition, and contribute to wise trade-offs between different interests.
Your Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- a relevant technical, natural science, or social science degree at the university or college level, such as a civil engineer or urban planner.
- at least five years of relevant work experience, for example from a government agency, municipal or regional operations, the energy sector, or as a consultant.
- several years of experience working as a coordinator or project manager.
- experience with permit assessments or guidance according to the environmental code.
- experience working with energy issues.
- documented strong communication skills in both spoken and written form.
It is an advantage if you:
- have good knowledge of environmental assessments.
- have good knowledge of the environmental code and other Swedish environmental legislation.
- have good familiarity with physical planning.
- have worked with guidance or other communication regarding regulations.
To achieve good results, a high degree of collaboration and dialogue is required both internally and externally with other authorities, the business community, and other stakeholders. The guiding role at the agency requires a good attitude, strong pedagogical skills, and a sense of service. You can remain objective and understand that you represent the agency. You see the bigger picture in complex contexts and can assess which issues are important from the agency's role and mission. You should also have a good ability to take responsibility and drive work forward, plan, and prioritize tasks in a structured manner even when the work pace is high.
We will place great emphasis on personal suitability.
