Internship at the National Historical Museums of Sweden
Organization
The authority manages one of Northern Europe's largest museum collections with approximately eleven million objects and a multi-century history of collecting. The collections include everything from prehistoric ceramics, osteological material, coins from the Viking Age, and medieval crucifixes to book collections from the 17th century, textiles from the royal wardrobes, molds for paper production, and testimonies from Holocaust survivors. The collections grow through object accession from archaeological contract work and active collecting. Approximately 60 people work in the Department of Collections and Research, organized into four units, with the task of managing and making the collections accessible.
The National Historical Museums of Sweden welcomes interns from universities and colleges. In the fall of 2025, the Cultural History Unit is looking for an intern studying a relevant program in the humanities where an internship is a mandatory component. Your placement will primarily be at Sweden's Museum of the Holocaust collection, where you will work closely with archivists and curators.
Content of the Internship
You will participate in the regular operations and get to try administrative work in the museum's collection. You will take part in the work of receiving, organizing, and making archives accessible through, for example, cataloging, registration, and digitization. You will also get to conduct research, both in the collection and in other archives.
Qualifications
- You should be enrolled in a relevant bachelor's or master's program, such as the Archival and Cultural Heritage Program or the ABM Program.
- You should be studying or have studied archival science.
- You should have good knowledge of the Holocaust.
We are looking for a person with good knowledge of English, as the Holocaust is a transnational event.
It is an advantage if you also master one or more of the following languages: Yiddish, Polish, Romani, German, and Hungarian.
You need to be structured and responsible and able to work independently under the guidance of an archivist.
Application
Your application should include: CV, description of your education and completed courses, desired internship period, and a personal letter explaining why you applied to us and what you expect from the internship.
Interviews will be held before the internship position is filled.
Before the internship period, a criminal record extract will be requested.
Welcome with your application by April 30, 2025!
