Librarian Focused on Children and Youth
Are you an engaged librarian who wants to inspire children and young people to read? We are now looking for a librarian focused on promoting reading with an emphasis on children and youth for a temporary position starting in May/June 2025.
About Us
The libraries in Solna have many visitors every day. Solna City Library consists of several units, including the library in Solna Center, the library in Bergshamra, the school and public library at Ulriksdal School, and our rolling bicycle library. 23 people work at Solna City Library, and our mission is to provide our visitors with the best possible library service based on governing documents and assignments in the city's library plan. We focus on job satisfaction and utilizing our employees' ideas. The competencies that are important to us are the ability to collaborate and cooperate, focus on goals and results, take initiative, and be responsible.
Solna City Library is an HBTQI-certified library and also a Romani reading ambassador.

What Does the Job Involve?
The work is located at the library in Solna Center and at Bergshamra Library. Work at Ulriksdal School's library may also occur.
At Solna City Library, we work all-round. Each person has their focus area but works from a holistic perspective on the operations. Therefore, you must enjoy working in an organization where staff are not divided into categories in a traditional sense. We all help each other fulfill the assignments we have, so it is important that you are prepared to take on the tasks that arise. This can involve everything from providing literature tips and assisting visitors with basic citizen services to helping with activities and events.
The library receives a large number of visits from preschools and schools in the area and offers a wide range of program activities for children, youth, and adults. You will be part of one of three development groups and work on reading promotion measures, particularly aimed at children and youth, but other target groups may also become relevant. Your main tasks will involve close collaboration with both colleagues and visitors, where you contribute to the ongoing library work with a focus on meeting our visitors on-site.
You Will:
- Staff our information desks and provide service to our visitors.
- Assist with book displays, media handling, and basic technical support.
- Contribute to creating an inclusive and pleasant environment at the library.
- Administer and conduct 6-year viewings.
- Perform other relevant tasks.
- Conduct outreach activities with our bicycle library.
Note: Evening and weekend shifts according to schedule are included.
Who Are We Looking For?
We are looking for someone who has
- a degree in library and information science, or another higher education qualification that the employer assesses as equivalent
- experience working on reading promotion for prioritized target groups
- good knowledge of children's and youth literature
- experience working with diversity perspectives
- good computer skills, good knowledge of social media, and is accustomed to handling digital services
- a good ability to communicate well in Swedish, both spoken and written, and preferably speaks several languages.
It is advantageous if you have
- previous experience in library work
- previous experience working with children and youth.
As a person, we prefer that you are creative, outgoing, and confident in your role. You enjoy working both independently and proactively. We see good collaboration skills and the ability to create good relationships as a given. You have a strong service mindset, an inclusive and pedagogical approach, and find it easy to meet people in different situations. You are structured, have a holistic view, and a solution-focused work style. We are looking for someone who is goal- and result-oriented and has a good initiative to drive the work forward. If you are also responsible, stress-resistant, and flexible, you are the one we are looking for!
