Stage Master at the Royal Opera

Scenteknik is a developing unit aimed at adapting and meeting the needs of future performing arts with effective methods and modern technical solutions. Do you want to lead the work with scenteknik during an exciting time of change at the Royal Opera and be an important part of world-class performing arts?

The Opera has begun an important transformation process in the scenteknik department and we are now looking for a stage master for one of our scenteknik teams. We are looking for someone with extensive experience in scenteknik work, leadership, and who is motivated by the combination of working on stage while leading and developing.

We offer you a job in a creative environment where we work together to create world-class opera and ballet productions.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a stage master, you will ensure that work on stage is conducted safely, securely, and efficiently, and that all elements of the productions are carried out professionally.

The position involves personnel responsibility and management of scenteknikers, as well as the scenteknik work during rehearsals and performances, being responsible for set construction and rigging, ensuring that cue lists are updated and followed, and that work on stage is performed according to established routines. The stage master collaborates closely with the assistant stage master, theater technicians, and adjacent workgroups to daily ensure the scheduled repertoire activities, which include performances, rehearsals, and transitions.

As a stage master, you have a central and responsible role in leading the daily work on our stage as well as tactically and proactively planning the work for the future. The role includes, among other things, conducting annual employee reviews. You are also responsible for administrative tasks such as work schedule planning, time reporting, resource allocation, and temporary staff.

REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCE PROFILE

We are looking for someone with solid experience in scenteknik work, and we consider it an advantage if you have experience from a performing arts institution with repertoire work. You have broad theater technical competence, are used to driving both your own and others' work, and can get the entire team to deliver at the highest level.

  • In addition to practical skills and technical competence, you have good computer skills and are proficient in Office programs such as Excel, Word, and Teams.
  • You communicate excellently in both Swedish and English.
  • It is advantageous if you have rigging skills and experience working in CAD programs.
  • In addition to the above, you have a genuine interest in supporting performing arts production with scenteknik and expertise.

You need to be aware of your important role in our shared work environment, both physical, organizational, and social. You have good experience in leadership, personnel development, and have a strong focus on safety, being accustomed to working with workplace issues. You value a good work environment and continuously strive for improvement together with your colleagues.

A prerequisite for succeeding in the role is that you are development-oriented and communicative – the Royal Opera is facing significant changes in the coming years, where these qualities will be needed more than ever.

To succeed in the position, you must be a skilled relationship builder. You are responsible, organized, and unpretentious. You enjoy driving development and change processes and work towards optimizing our resources.

WE OFFER

The technical department at the Royal Opera is in a phase of reorientation regarding many aspects. We are changing our methods, developing our way of collaborating with each other, and we are facing a physical relocation of operations during the Opera's upcoming renovation. Do you find this a stimulating and exciting challenge? Then the Opera could be a great workplace for you.

EMPLOYMENT

The employment is a permanent full-time position with an initial probationary period of six months. The role reports to the Head of Scenteknik. The work is scheduled for both daytime, evening, and weekend.

CONTACT

For more information about the position, you are welcome to contact the Head of Scenteknik, Lena Kjellander Stockhaus, and/or Technical Manager, Timotej Åkerman. The union contact person is Patrik Andersson, Ledarna. You can reach all of them by emailing förnamn.efternamn@operan.se (mailto:f%C3%B6rnamn.efternamn@operan.se).
