Malmö Magistratsgymnasium is looking for a counselor

Malmö Magistratsgymnasium is seeking a secure counselor with a strong commitment to students' learning, health, and development. The school is small and will open in the autumn term of 2025. As a counselor, you will assist the school with psychosocial competence at all organizational levels and contribute to school development.

Responsibilities

Your role includes working towards a well-functioning student health service that supports students' development towards educational goals. The main responsibilities are to:

• Conduct individual conversations with students regarding school-related issues
• Hold occasional conversations for assessment and referral to other agencies
• Facilitate group discussions with students
• Collaborate with the student's guardians, school staff, and external authorities and organizations
• Guide and inform school staff on psychosocial matters
• Participate in the school's student health team and contribute with psychosocial expertise
• Engage in the school's systematic quality and development work
• Work on students' work environment, e.g., the school's core values
• Provide knowledge to teaching, e.g., substance abuse prevention
• Assess students for admission to adapted upper secondary school
• Handle educational financial matters
• Supervise social work candidates
• Document in the counselor's records in Prorenata

Qualifications

Requirements:

• Degree in Social Work (210 credits)
• Several years of experience in social work focusing on children and youth
• Good understanding of the Swedish National Agency for Education's goals and governing documents
• Proficient in using digital tools for communication and pedagogy
• Fluent in Swedish, both spoken and written

Desirable:

• Training in Motivational Interviewing (MI)
• Experience working with children and youth within social services
• Previous experience as a school counselor
• Good experience collaborating with other authorities and participating in various networks
• Experience working within upper secondary school's introductory programs or special education groups in compulsory school (grades 7-9)

The work requires you to be secure in your professional role, able to work independently, be proactive, and have a good ability to see opportunities in various situations. As a person, you have a good demeanor and a strong ability to plan and prioritize your work. You have good collaboration skills and an interest in working together in teams with various professional categories. Your approach is relational, salutogenic, and focused on health-promoting and preventive work. You are flexible, attentive, and have an easy time building trust and good relationships with students, guardians, colleagues, and external partners.

• Ongoing profession-specific support from coordinated counselors

Regular external supervision is offered for school counselors.

About the workplace

Malmö Magistratsgymnasium is a smaller school unit in central Malmö for students studying individual alternatives (IMA) or vocational introduction (IMY). A few places will also be available for students from other upper secondary schools who temporarily need a different placement.
