As the Supplier Development Engineer (SDE) you will play a crucial role in ensuring the delivery of quality parts from our external suppliers and ensuring timely and flawless launches of new Camera products, such as lens assembly, lens elements, filters etc.
This position involves participating in the supplier selection process and approving new components through Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) for serial production. The SDE will verify suppliers' understanding and application of design requirements, statements of work, specifications, and adherence to industry, automotive, customer, and MAGNA standards. Ensuring timely and flawless launches of new parts is a key responsibility.
Your main responsibility:
- New potential supplier selection and supplier onboarding process
- Actively involved in new component sourcing
- Supplier Quality Project, supporting APQP & PPAP
- Lead supplier audits according to (VDA 6.3)
- PPAP approver, but also escalate any APQP/PPAP delays/deviations.
- Assist Engineering in the transfer of Customer Specific requirements
- Create and monitor Supplier KPI and performance
In this position, you are expected to travel, domestically and internationally to suppliers and other Magna facilities.
Qualifications
We are looking for a dedicated and goal-oriented team member who are team-oriented, with the ability to bring people together, and drive results through project management, monitoring and set clear targets and milestones.
Excellent communication skills are essential, as the role involves regular interaction with various stakeholders, including team members, suppliers, and other external partners. The candidate will be responsible for providing clear and concise weekly and monthly activity reports, ensuring that all parties are well-informed and aligned with project goals and progress.

- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Optical Engineering or related field
- Experience in quality engineering in automotive manufacturing environment
- Experience in the automotive manufacturing industry, preferably in one or more of the following commodities areas; Optics, Mechanics
- Experience in deployment and/or auditing of PPAP, 8D, FMEA, PFMEA
- Knowledgeable in VDA, ISO 9001, IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 requirements
