System Architect at FOI

FOI, the Total Defence Research Institute, is one of Europe's leading institutes for applied research in defense and security. FOI is an authority under the Ministry of Defence and is tasked with conducting research, method and technology development, as well as investigations for total defense and in support of disarmament, non-proliferation, and international security. The activities are conducted on behalf of primarily the Government Offices, the Armed Forces, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB). At FOI, we have approximately 1400 employees, of which over 1000 work directly with research and development. Our competencies span the entire field from natural sciences and technology to social sciences and political science.

About the Position

At FOI in Linköping, there is one of Europe's first and largest cyber facilities. Here we simulate IT and OT environments that integrate into various cybersecurity scenarios. The purpose is to provide a robust testing environment for, primarily, military systems. The facility is also instantiated to serve as a controlled environment for cyber exercises and for experimental research on cyber threats. As a system architect with us, you will work on the scalability and robustness of the facility and explore the possibilities that virtualization and advanced automation provide. You will build a good understanding of the facility's function from hardware to usage and actively and curiously evaluate technologies and systems.

About the Unit

You will be part of the Cyber Training Center, which belongs to Cyber Defense and Command Technology in Linköping. The unit's main mission is to contribute to the ability of critical societal operations to withstand cyber threats. We do this by conducting and researching exercises and training in the cyber domain and by developing and managing the cyber facility Crate.

Do you have the skill profile we need?

Requirements

We are looking for someone who has:

  • a university degree in computer engineering or information technology, or has acquired skills that FOI considers equivalent in another way
  • experience in system development and complex technical systems
  • good knowledge of Swedish in both spoken and written form

We place great importance on your personal qualities. Having good problem-solving analytical skills, being able to plan, organize, and prioritize your work, as well as working well with others are qualities we highly value in this recruitment.

Meritorious

It is an advantage if you have:

  • Experience working with advanced testing facilities
  • Good understanding of management requirements and configuration management
  • Experience with service-based architectures
  • Knowledge of Ansible and components from Elastic/OpenSearch

The position is a permanent employment that may begin with a six-month probationary period.
