As a personal assistant, you work in the customer's home and local environment providing support in everyday life. The tasks may vary depending on the customer's needs but often involve assisting with personal care, communication, transfers, activities, and household chores. You work closely with the customer and are an important part of their life and independence.

You should be a person who is attentive, positive, empathetic, secure, and calm, and has a strong commitment to the profession of personal assistant. Being flexible and available is seen as very positive. It is important that you understand the importance of being professional in your role. You should also be responsible, able to work independently, and solve tasks on your own in consultation with the customer.

The positions vary in scope, and working hours are scheduled for day, evening, night, and weekend depending on the customer's needs. Both full-time, part-time, and hourly positions are available.
