The Traffic Office is responsible for maintaining and developing Stockholm's public spaces to ensure they are safe, attractive, accessible, and sustainable. The mission includes everything from taking care of the existing urban environment to implementing strategic investment projects and planning for tomorrow's growing metropolis. To accomplish our mission, we are about 450 colleagues, mainly located in the newly renovated premises of the Technical Board House in Kungsholmen. Together, we ensure that Stockholm continues to be a leading city with sustainable transport solutions and vibrant environments, both today and in the future.
Welcome to us
Do you have an interest in maps and basic knowledge of detailed plans? Do you want to contribute to societal benefit while building your career and learning more about public authority and public operations? We are now looking for a cartographer to strengthen the team responsible for the city's collective map within the System and Operational Support unit of the Permit Department.
The position is a six-month temporary contract starting as soon as possible.
In this role, you have an important mission to help prevent excavation damage and protect all utilities under the city's ground while minimizing disruptions to accessibility for the benefit of Stockholm's residents. The position suits you who are meticulous and quality-conscious and enjoy providing support and advice.
We offer
You will belong to the System and Operational Support unit, which is responsible for the Permit Department's systems and operational system management. We have a total of twenty employees, including four cartographers responsible for the city's collective map, with whom you will closely collaborate.
Our unit is characterized by a positive and open climate where we are attentive and help each other. You will quickly become part of the team, and we care about a good working environment where there is room for discussion and our employees feel involved.
Our workplace is centrally located in the Technical Board House in Kungsholmen, just a few minutes' walk from the central station.
In addition, we offer you good employment benefits such as professional development, wellness grants, wellness hours, good flexible working conditions, and the option to exchange vacation day allowances for extra time off. Please read more about our benefits within the City of Stockholm here.
Your role
The work as a cartographer involves collecting, analyzing, and presenting geographic information as well as creating collective maps. The collective map is an example of a shared product that shows utility information from each utility owner in the City of Stockholm on the city's base map. In this role, you create collective maps that account for utilities and other installations beneath the surface within street and park areas. You coordinate with various utility owners and other stakeholders to ensure that all relevant information is included in the collective maps. Additionally, you provide support and advice to those who use the collective maps, including contractors and others performing ground works.
Your qualifications and experience
We are looking for someone who:
- has a high school diploma with a focus on technology or post-secondary education in measurement and cartography, or other education that the employer considers equivalent
- has knowledge of CAD drawings
- is proficient in Swedish, both spoken and written.
It is an advantage if you have:
- basic knowledge of detailed plans and their structure
- knowledge of GIS systems.
Personal abilities and skills
We are looking for someone who is calm and accommodating in their interactions, with an interest, willingness, and ability to help others. You are self-driven and structured, taking responsibility for assigned tasks and areas. The role also places high demands on you being quality-conscious and meticulous, and it is important that you can collaborate well with others. We would like you to have a strong technical interest and to come up with ideas and suggest new approaches, especially when it comes to exploring the opportunities that digitalization brings to our operations. We place great emphasis on personal suitability as well as motivation and interest in the position.
