Halmstad University is now seeking a professor in pedagogy, educational science, didactics, and/or subject didactics with a special focus on teacher education for the Department of Learning at the School of Learning, Humanities, and Society.

School of Learning, Humanities, and Society

The university consists of four interdisciplinary schools, and the current position is located at the School of Learning, Humanities, and Society (LHS). The school has about 90 employees distributed across two departments: the Department of Learning and the Department of Humanities and Society. The school offers undergraduate education as well as supplementary pedagogical education and professional development for practitioners. Additionally, the Department of Learning has recently launched an international master's program in Digital Learning, offering exciting opportunities for teaching and supervision at an advanced level. Several doctoral students are also affiliated with the school through various graduate schools and doctoral education at other schools. The school is currently in the process of formulating a doctoral education application in the area of "Learning in School and Society." The research at the school is focused on learning, digitalization, and social change. Since 2022, the university's research has been organized into various multidisciplinary research programs that provide good opportunities for collaboration both within the school and with researchers at other schools. Many of the school's researchers are affiliated with the university's research programs LeaDS – Learning in a Digital Society and TRAINS – Transformation, Innovation, and Norm Sciences. The school also includes the Digital Laboratory Center (DLC), which is a creative digital environment for education, research, and collaboration. In addition, we have a well-established collaboration with municipalities and school authorities in the region through the SamLär network.

We need you with professorial competence in pedagogy, educational science, didactics, and/or subject didactics with a special focus on teacher education for the Department of Learning at the School of Learning, Humanities, and Society.

Responsibilities

The position involves participation in and responsibility for research, teaching, and supervision within the teacher education programs at the school, as well as active participation in the development of these programs. Experience in doctoral education related to teacher education is particularly meritorious. Great emphasis is placed on the ability to collaborate, lead academic processes, and contribute to the development of teacher education. As a professor in the Department of Learning, you will primarily work with:

• Contributing to the design of the doctoral education area “Learning in School and Society.”
• Actively contributing to and leading research at the school through project applications and scientific publications.
• Leading and developing educational scientific research relevant to teacher education.
• Teaching and supervising at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels.
• Participating in academic mentorship and leadership and development work within the school.
• Collaborating with school authorities and other stakeholders in the education sector.

The position also includes tasks such as working to ensure that the school and department receive external research funding, conducting independent research, teaching, and certain administrative tasks.

Qualifications

Eligible for appointment as a professor is one who has demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical competence.

The assessment criteria for the appointment of a professor shall be the degree of such competence required for eligibility for appointment. The assessment of pedagogical competence shall be given equal care as the assessment of scientific or artistic competence. Each university determines what assessment criteria shall apply for the appointment of a professor.” (Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 Section 3)

A doctoral degree in pedagogy, educational science, didactics, and/or subject didactics, or equivalent scientific competence in another relevant scientific field for the position, and having acquired knowledge that is significant with regard to the subject content of the appointment and the tasks that will be included in the appointment.

Professorial competence with documented scientific and pedagogical skills.
