Adjunct Teacher in Clinical Radiation Therapy Physics

Fysikum is one of the larger institutions within the Faculty of Science, with a broad fundamental research activity, both experimental and theoretical.

The department has approximately 250 employees, of which 95 are doctoral students, and it has an international character. Fysikum is part of the AlbaNova University Center, which is a strong research center, and besides Fysikum, it houses the Department of Astronomy, the physics departments at KTH, and the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics, Nordita.

At Fysikum, the hospital physicist education is offered, which is a five-year professional program. During the last three years of the program, courses focused on medical radiation physics are provided, including clinical courses. Teachers from hospitals participate in the clinical courses. The participation of hospital teachers in these courses is regulated by a local collaboration agreement between Stockholm University, Karolinska University Hospital, and the Stockholm County Council, which is valid for 2023. In addition, collaboration regarding work-integrated learning (WIL) is regulated by an agreement between Stockholm University and the Stockholm County Council.

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities include overall course responsibility and being the examiner for the course Clinical Radiation Therapy Physics (FK8036), 7.5 credits, at the advanced level, which is given during the fifth year of the hospital physicist program. The examiner grades the course and has good knowledge of the subject as well as knowledge of the responsibilities that come with authority over individuals. Additionally, the candidate is expected to teach the course and be responsible for the organization of courses and coordination of the teaching involved. Fysikum's guidelines for course responsible teachers and examiners apply to adjunct teachers with examination rights.

Eligibility Requirements

Adjunct teacher is a form of employment for teachers whose main activity is outside higher education. The employment is temporary, possibly with the opportunity for extension, and part-time. Eligible for employment as an adjunct teacher is someone with a hospital physicist degree or equivalent competence and who has deep knowledge in the subject, demonstrated pedagogical skills, and experience in course responsibility.

You should also have many years of experience in clinical practice in the field, as well as being familiar with practice, development, and research at both national and international levels. Teaching will be conducted in English, so well-developed knowledge of English is a requirement. All teaching positions at Stockholm University require that the applicant has the ability to collaborate and is otherwise suitable to fulfill the job responsibilities.

Assessment Criteria

In the appointment process, special emphasis will be placed on documented experience in teaching, supervising students during their practical training, and conducting tripartite discussions.

In the appointment process, special emphasis will also be placed on the degree of pedagogical skill primarily in the subject area of the announcement and the ability to organize and administer courses within the hospital physicist program.

It is meritorious to have a doctoral degree in the field or equivalent competence. Also, higher education pedagogical training or equivalent knowledge acquired in other ways is meritorious. An applicant who lacks higher education pedagogical training and who is not assessed to have acquired equivalent knowledge in other ways must undergo relevant training during the adjunct position.

About the Employment

The employment is temporary, part-time 20%, and lasts for two years with the possibility of extension. Start date 2025-05-01 or by agreement.
