About the Unit
The 31st Ranger Battalion is a light conventional ranger unit tasked with supporting the Swedish Armed Forces' special forces.
The battalion is a standing unit with high availability and is trained for operations with short preparation times. The unit carries out tasks across the entire conflict spectrum, both within Sweden's borders and in other parts of the world. As a soldier in the battalion, you must be prepared to undertake international service as this is a natural part of our operations.
The defining profile for the battalion is primarily the ability to conduct rapid movements and foot combat with carried weapon systems. The battalion is well-trained and has developed methods to solve these tasks together with helicopter and transport aviation units.
The battalion operates in task-adapted combat groups over large areas and often in a different direction than other units, which places high demands on personnel's physical and mental capabilities. This further imposes significant requirements on individual soldier skills and the ability to prioritize the mission and the group over personal needs. In addition to soldier skills, good teamwork, initiative, and high stress tolerance are prerequisites for the ranger soldier to operate effectively in all situations.
The battalion's continuously serving components consist of:
- Battalion Staff
- Ranger Support Squadron (Command Platoon, Logistics Platoon, Reconnaissance Platoon, GRK Platoon, and Medical Platoon)
- Ranger Squadron (Three Ranger Platoons and a Headquarters & Support Platoon)
Main Responsibilities
As a ranger reinforcement soldier, you enable the battalion's ability to conduct deep combat operations against an enemy formation. You are a key resource for the battalion to be able to carry out operations over an extended period.
