Gävle is a municipality with high ambitions regarding sustainable urban development, architectural quality, and attractive living environments. We are now looking for a City Architect who wants to help shape the city's development and contribute to a long-term sustainable and well-designed built environment.

As a City Architect, you work strategically and long-term with architectural and design issues while also providing support and guidance in concrete projects and cases. Here, you have the opportunity to influence the municipality's development together with engaged colleagues, residents, businesses, and political representatives.

The position is located within Construction and Environment in the Livelihood sector. Construction and Environment consists of five units: Planning, Building Permits, Environment and Health, Municipal Land Survey Authority, and Mapping, Surveying, and GIS.

Responsibilities

In the role of City Architect, you are responsible for providing support, coordinating, and driving architectural and design issues within the municipality with the aim of creating attractive, safe, and sustainable environments for the municipality's residents.

The duties include:

• Being an expert resource in matters concerning design and architecture in early stages, land allocation, urban development projects, and art projects.
• Initiating, inspiring, and generating interest in architecture and design among residents, businesses, and political representatives by giving lectures and participating in seminars and media.
• Coordinating the municipality's architecture prize.
• Ensuring that the municipality's architecture policy is up-to-date and followed.
• Participating in the municipality's comprehensive planning.
• Providing support in planning and building permit cases of significant general interest from a design and architectural perspective.

As City Architect, you are also responsible for coordinating, driving, and developing the collaboration between architects within the Livelihood sector.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who has:

• A degree in architecture from a university or university college.
• Good knowledge of the Planning and Building Act.
• Several years of experience as an architect.

It is meritorious if you have experience in drawing and designing buildings and working within municipal operations.

You have a well-developed sense for good design and can see qualities at different scales, from the city's overall structure and urban space to the details of individual buildings.

As City Architect, you have an important strategic and guiding role. You are driven and proactive, take responsibility for advancing design issues, and dare to make clear and well-founded decisions.

You are receptive and have an easy time building trusting relationships through dialogue, both with consultants, clients, politicians, and colleagues. You contribute to consensus and quality in the city's development.

You are creative and solution-oriented and have the ability to inspire others and create engagement and participation in architectural and design issues.

You communicate clearly and have a good ability to express yourself both orally and in writing. You adapt your communication to the recipient and context.
