Siljan Geopark is operated in cooperation between the Siljan municipalities of Leksand, Mora, Orsa, and Rättvik, the County Administrative Board of Dalarna, and the regional destination company Visit Dalarna. We are currently looking for an engaged Operations Manager who will be organizationally affiliated with Mora Municipality, but whose workplace covers the entire geographical area of Siljan Geopark. It is a small organization consisting of a 40% communicator and a 50% Operations Manager. We are now recruiting for the Operations Manager role.
About Siljan Geopark
About 380 million years ago, a meteorite struck what is commonly known as the Siljan Ring. The site is Western Europe's largest crater and a so-called "star scar." Here you find unique rock formations that people throughout history have utilized in agriculture, lime production, and early industrialization. The area is also widely known for its magnificent nature and beautiful landscapes, which have attracted researchers, artists, authors, and visitors in a tourism industry that started several hundred years ago. The Siljan Ring has long interested geologists and is today a major source of knowledge.
In 2019, Siljan Geopark was awarded the status of National Geopark by the Swedish Geological Survey (SGU). The goal of establishing Siljan Geopark is to strengthen the tourism industry, create conditions for the local business community, and contribute to an understanding of geology and how these conditions affect societal development.
Your Responsibilities
Tasks and areas of responsibility included in the role are, among others:
- In collaboration with a communicator, lead the establishment of Siljan Geopark by anchoring the organization and, together with the Geopark's steering group, develop a long-term strategy, business plan, and budget for each operating year. This also includes the development of a business model with financing opportunities.
- In cooperation with the various actors of the Geopark, quality-assure selected geosites and develop them as visitor attractions. Together with the Geopark's communicator, work on such things as interpretation plans, communication plans, signage, target-group-adapted digital solutions, and packaged hiking tours.
- Lead the work on further developing Siljan Geopark's cooperation forms between the Geopark's various actors. The Operations Manager actively participates in relevant networks.
- Create a roadmap for the development of Siljan Geopark's status as a Geopark.
Who are we looking for?
You feel comfortable in a driving role, have good collaboration skills, and are accustomed to working in various forms of cooperation with different types of actors. Working systematically and independently to achieve your goals feels natural as you are well-organized and proactive with a good ability to plan and prioritize. You adapt easily to new conditions and communicate clearly, listen attentively, and engage both in individual meetings and before large groups. To succeed in this role, we see that you are creative, engaged, and find ways despite limited resources.
Furthermore, we see that you have:
- Experience of project or operations management, including budget responsibility.
- Experience in some form of communication work, preferably within the tourism industry or destination development.
- Fluent language skills in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
- Very good computer skills and a good ability to learn new things.
- A valid driver's license (Category B) and access to a personal car.
We would like you to have a good understanding of what it means to work in a politically governed organization and experience in seeking external funding and board work in some form. Post-secondary education in a relevant field. Geological knowledge.
