Coordinator for After-School Activities (ESA) in Södra Ryd

Are you passionate about working with children and young people and contributing to the development and strengthening of the Södra Ryd area in Skövde? We are now looking for a coordinator for our initiative, After-School Activities (ESA) in Ryd.

ESA is organized within our culture department, which includes the city library, stage and events unit, cultural school and city museum, art unit, and youth meeting places unit. You will report directly to the Culture Director. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with our prioritized mission for area development, which involves networking and relationship building in close cooperation with leisure activities, libraries, and schools in Södra Ryd.

In this role, you play an important part alongside us within the Sector for Citizens and Social Development. Here, approximately 300 employees work in areas concerning quality of life, attractiveness, and employment. The sector also has an overarching responsibility to support and monitor the municipality's public health work, child and youth policy work, diversity and integration work, association life, and coordination of the municipality's international work.

Responsibilities

ESA aims to create a sort of gap between the after-school care center (fritidshem) and the youth center (fritidsgård). In addition to activities, it offers snacks and homework help. ESA aims to create a welcoming environment without attendance requirements, offering free activities. Key partners include RF-Sisu, the Church of Sweden, the Red Cross, and other civil society organizations.

The coordinator's role is both strategic and operational, targeting children in middle school, grades 4-6, residing in the Södra Ryd area. The focus is primarily on children and young people who are not active in associations, as well as children with poor school results.

Skövde Municipality has an overarching goal to reduce segregation and create equal upbringing and living conditions with good life chances for everyone. Södra Ryd is the only area in Skövde Municipality that RF-Sisu classifies as sports-weak, and there is a significant lack of organized adult presence after school here.

A success factor within ESA is that children and young people participate in the design and implementation themselves, and the entire program is based on their interests and wishes. An important component is also an investment in young leaders from the area to create role models for younger children and development opportunities for the young leaders. Skövde Municipality hopes that this working model can also be applied to other areas in Skövde.

Qualifications

The applicant for this position must have documented competence as an after-school care teacher or equivalent. You must hold a university education that the employer deems relevant and/or have corresponding experience. Additionally, you are expected to have experience in process facilitation. To succeed in this role, you need good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written, and multilingualism is an advantage. It is an advantage if you have knowledge of current research in the fields of public health, integration, and social work, experience in association development, and education as a leisure-time pedagogue or similar.

You are flexible and have good collaborative and pedagogical skills, understanding the importance of anchoring, communication, and presentation. You are creative, independent, enduring, norm-critical, and work towards set goals.
