Your responsibilities

As a caretaker (Vaktmästare) at the Facility Operation and Management unit, you work with the maintenance and operation of our sports facilities, primarily our ice rinks. The work varies throughout the year and includes machine operation related to ice care, building maintenance, repair, cleaning, and care of sports equipment. You will also participate in preparations for various events, ensuring that technology functions and that the facility and arena are ready for matches or other events.

The work is service-oriented and involves extensive contact with clubs, athletes, visitors, and other activities operating within the sports facility and arena.

You will work both independently and together with colleagues in a team where collaboration and communication are key parts of daily life. In this role, you have close contact with operations managers and unit managers. As a new employee, you will receive a thorough introduction where you shadow a colleague.

Working hours vary within the span of 06:00–24:00 according to a rotating schedule. Weekend work is included in the position.

Your workplace

You will become part of the Culture and Leisure Administration, where our mission is to develop culture, sports, and leisure life for the residents of Linköping Municipality. The administration consists of approximately 250 employees and is organized into a support staff and four departments: Culture, Library, Youth & Leisure, and Sports & Outdoor Life.

The position belongs to the Sports & Outdoor Life department, the Facility Operation and Management unit, where we are responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of the municipality's approximately 55 sports facilities. We are based at Stångebrohallen, and the organization consists of two unit managers, two operations managers, two technicians, and approximately 25 sports caretakers.

You who apply

To succeed in the role of caretaker within sports facilities, you are required to have:

• A high school diploma or work experience that the employer deems equivalent.
• Previous work experience in the maintenance of sports facilities.
• Good knowledge of Swedish in both speech and writing, as you communicate daily with visitors, clubs, and colleagues, and to read instructions and handle our systems.
• Good everyday computer and system proficiency.
• A B-driver's license for manual transmission.

The following are meritorious:

• Education in building maintenance or another area deemed equivalent by the employer.
• Machine operator training (e.g., for ice resurfacer, tractor, loader, or forklift).
• Experience in building maintenance as well as operation and maintenance of sports equipment.
• Experience in service and customer contact within sports activities or similar operations where you have met coaches, audiences, parents, and athletes.
• Experience in operating and handling machines (such as ice resurfacers, tractors, loaders, or forklifts).
• Knowledge in machine repair and maintenance.

Regarding your personal qualities, you are an independent and self-motivated person who takes full responsibility for your tasks, structures your own approach, and drives your processes forward. You are quality-conscious, meticulous, and well aware of the organization's goals and quality standards, placing great emphasis on delivering results that meet these standards. As a caretaker in sports facilities, you meet many people in your daily work, which requires very good teamwork skills. You work well with others, are receptive and flexible in your approach, and communicate and resolve conflicts constructively.

We are looking for someone with great commitment; you take pride in your job and bring enthusiasm, energy, and joy to the work group. You have the ability to create participation and consensus regarding the operations and contribute to motivating others. Furthermore, you are creative, have a forward-thinking mindset that can be put into practice, and often come up with new ideas and approaches to work-related issues.
