About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation services, remand prisons, and client transport.

Halmstad Prison is a closed prison in the second-highest security class. The prison has 160 employees, the majority of whom are correctional officers. The prison is located five kilometers west of the city center, just next to the Flygstadens commercial area in Halmstad. The distance to Halmstad city center is approximately 10–15 minutes by bus or bicycle. A remand prison is currently being built on the prison grounds, with a planned inauguration in spring/summer 2027.

The capacity increase will result in a doubling of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's operations in Halmstad.

Job Description

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service provides certain open healthcare services, which means that all prisons and remand prisons have health clinics where inmates can seek care. The clinics are staffed with nurses, as well as general practitioners and psychiatrists. As a nurse, you will have your own clinic for assessing minor ailments, but you will also assess which patients need to see a doctor. This means you will work with both somatic and psychiatric healthcare for the inmates, assist at doctor's appointments, and administer medication, primarily through dose dispensing. Documentation is done in the PMO patient data journal.

In stressful situations, you remain calm, stable, and in control. You have great integrity and the ability to make correct assessments and prioritizations. You are quality-conscious and meticulous, and have the ability to structure your own approach and drive your processes forward.

You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. We are looking for someone who has:

• Registered Nurse license
• Ability to communicate well in Swedish, both orally and in writing

The following are also meritorious:

• A specialization or further education relevant to the employer, for example within psychiatry, emergency care, or outpatient care
• Work experience in the profession
• Relevant language skills
