About Us

The Legal Division of the Swedish Customs Authority (Tullverket) is responsible for legal governance and legal support within the Authority.

The division is divided into four units: the Customs Law Unit, the Physical Control and Criminal Law Unit, the Information and Archive Management Unit, and the General Administrative Law Unit. The division currently has approximately 60 employees, of whom about 20 are in the Customs Law Unit. The division has employees in Stockholm, Malmö, Gothenburg, and Luleå. The division is led by the Authority's Chief Legal Officer, and each unit has a unit manager.

The Customs Law Unit is responsible for legal governance and legal support in the areas of customs law and tax law. The unit is also responsible for handling proceedings in administrative courts when the Authority's decisions on customs and tax are appealed.

The EU Customs Union is currently undergoing a comprehensive reform aimed at facilitating legal global trade, improving the collection of duties, and preventing the entry of goods that do not meet established requirements into the EU. Work is ongoing on new EU legal acts and changes to national legislation, and new case law is emerging. As a qualified corporate lawyer within the Customs Law Unit, you play a crucial role in complex and highly relevant legal areas where you apply both national legislation and extensive EU regulations.

The daily work will involve legal analysis and opinions, as well as support through written legal investigations and oral advice to the operations. The position also includes writing consultation responses, participating in both national and international legislative work, working with the review of regulations and other steering and support documents, and conducting training within the unit's legal areas. The work also involves acting as a legal resource in the Authority's extensive development activities. The work may also include participation in proceedings in administrative courts.

Are you the one we are looking for?

We are looking for you who have:

  • A Master of Laws degree (Jur.kand. or equivalent).
  • Several years of current and relevant experience in qualified legal work.
  • Very good skills in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

It is an advantage if you have:

  • Experience working with customs law or work related to customs or tax legislation.
  • Experience from courts, the Government Offices, authorities, or law firms.
  • Experience and interest in working in development activities.
  • Experience with EU issues and good knowledge of EU decision-making processes and working methods.

Employment type: This is a permanent position starting with a six-month probationary period. Individual salary setting applies.

Before a decision on employment is made, you will undergo a drug test and background check. A security investigation with register check according to the Security Protection Act will be conducted prior to employment, as the position is classified.

The Swedish Customs Authority is a total defense authority, and upon employment, you may be assigned to wartime duties within the Authority.
