Behavioral Scientist with a strong commitment to well-being & school attendance for Östbergsskolan

Östbergsskolan is a grades 4–9 school with 60 employees and approximately 420 students, including an associated after-school center. The school is centrally located on Frösön in Östersund. We are close to outdoor life and nature, and within cycling distance to Östersund city center and other districts. Here, active outdoor life alternates with a stimulating working environment – it is close to work, friends, and school. Östersund is an expanding university city where research and business develop together, new districts are emerging, and the range of services is broadening. The city is in exciting development, and you are welcome to grow with us.

About the position

We are now looking for you who want to make a difference for students in their daily school life. You will work both individually with students and together with teachers and the student health team to create a link between the school, home, and the students. Your work as a student warden and attendance coach will have a special focus on developing and implementing systematic, preventive, and promoting measures aimed at increasing students' attendance and well-being in school.

You will become part of a tightly knit team of educators and student health personnel, where you together plan for and are responsible for the students' education and development. Your mission is to create the best conditions for each student through a safe and trust-building environment. A central part of your work is to build and strengthen relationships, both between school and home and between students and school staff, to increase security and promote student engagement.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will work as a student warden and attendance coach together with another attendance coach and two teaching assistants. The work is fundamentally promoting and preventive, but you will also meet students who need support to handle various life challenges, such as high absenteeism, mental health issues, or family problems. You will offer both individual and group-based support to strengthen students' well-being, improve their school attendance, and give them tools to handle social situations.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Conversations and guidance for students with a focus on increasing attendance and engagement in school.
  • Support with social problems that may affect attendance, such as conflict management.
  • Collaboration with parents, school staff, and external actors to create cohesive and effective support measures.
  • Preventive and promoting work to create a safe and inclusive school environment that encourages students to be present and participate.
  • Observation and documentation of students' needs, as well as identifying factors that affect attendance.
  • Cooperation with school leadership, the student health team, and other actors to develop and implement support measures that improve attendance.
  • Education and counseling for school staff to effectively support students and improve their attendance and participation.
  • Actively driving issues related to student health, security, and attendance at the school.
  • Chairing the school's student council and, as part of your role as student warden, meeting students daily for relationship-building work in the school's cafeteria, corridors, classrooms, and playground.

We are looking for you

We are looking for you with a relevant education, such as social worker, behavioral scientist, social work, psychologist, teacher, or special needs educator. You have experience working with young people and social support, preferably with a background in social work, pedagogy, or another relevant area. Experience in democratically anchored work or project management roles as a basis for increased engagement, well-being, and culture is meritorious. Experience from the school world or in socially supportive roles for young people is a plus. Good Swedish in speech and writing is a requirement.

As a person, you are passionate about creating a positive and developmental school environment for all students. You have the ability to work purposefully to increase students' attendance and engagement. You are relationship-building and collaboration-oriented, building trusting relationships with both students and colleagues. To thrive and succeed in the role, you need to be independent and confident in your work and stand firm in the school's value base. Personal suitability is of great importance.

The position suits you who want to combine social work with pedagogy and help create conditions for students' well-being, learning, and attendance.
