Luleå University of Technology is now establishing a new research subject: Production Systems. The subject is established within the Department of Engineering Sciences and Mathematics, specifically at the Division of Product and Production Development.

The subject will contribute to teaching on several civil engineering programs with a focus on mechanical engineering. The subject will also conduct doctoral education. The new subject and the subject representative are expected to collaborate with several other subjects and center formations at the university. The subject is also expected to build up laboratory resources.

Subject Description

Production Systems focuses on the analysis, design, control, and continuous improvement of industrial production systems and value flows within manufacturing and process industries. The subject encompasses the development of production systems with a particular focus on flexibility and adaptability under changing technical and societal conditions.

Job Responsibilities

The position of Professor and Subject Representative includes overall responsibility for leading and developing the subject, encompassing research, doctoral education, as well as education at undergraduate and advanced levels. The Professor and Subject Representative has a special responsibility for ensuring the financing of the activity and for contacts with the surrounding society.

A central task is to establish and develop the new research subject, Production Systems, in the long term. This involves building a strong research and education environment, developing doctoral education and laboratory resources, and creating national and international collaborations with academia, institutes, and industry. The Subject Representative is expected to create good conditions for doctoral students, staff, and students to develop and contribute to the long-term development of the subject.

The position of Professor and Subject Representative is a permanent appointment.

Qualifications

Eligible for appointment as a professor is one who has demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical proficiency. Equal care should be given to the assessment of pedagogical and scientific proficiency.

To meet the requirements for appointment as a professor, the applicant must:

  • be outstanding in their field of study and demonstrate scientific activity of high international standard, showing a clear qualitative progression
  • have a total scientific production that, in quantity, corresponds to at least three doctoral dissertations, including the doctoral dissertation
  • demonstrate academic leadership, through, among other things:
    • experience in research-related trust positions such as expert, opponent, and/or member of an examination board
    • experience in leading research projects
    • experience in competitively applying for and receiving external funding for research projects as the principal investigator
    • experience in internal assignments within the university
    • experience in pedagogical leadership
  • have experience in supervision at the doctoral education level and, unless there are special reasons, have been the main supervisor for at least one doctoral student from admission to the doctoral degree
  • demonstrate pedagogical proficiency through reflective experience, teaching skills, and teaching development
  • demonstrate the ability to collaborate with the surrounding society, through, among other things:
    • making new knowledge accessible to the surrounding society
    • incorporating societal needs into research and/or educational contexts

In addition to the qualification requirements for a professor, special emphasis will be placed on leadership skills when recruiting a Professor and Subject Representative, through, among other things:

  • experience in personnel responsibility and personnel development
  • self-awareness and the ability to reflect on own leadership experiences
  • demonstrating experience in budget responsibility or other economic responsibility

Other Evaluation Criteria

These are weighted in descending order:

  • The degree of proficiency required for eligibility
  • Ability to obtain external research and development funding
  • Ability to contribute to the leadership groups and development of the subject, division, department, and university
  • Experience in personnel responsibility and personnel development, where experience in leading and developing both junior and senior staff is sought
  • Administrative proficiency that is significant with regard to the subject content and the tasks included in the employment
  • Ability to collaborate within the university, with partners, and with the surrounding society
  • Ability to inform about research and development work
  • Ability to teach in Swedish and/or English. Within a three-year period, we would like you to be able to communicate in Swedish. Luleå University of Technology offers tailor-made courses in Swedish
  • Experience in international, especially European, collaboration projects
