About AVL

AVL is one of the world’s leading mobility technology companies for development, simulation, and testing in the automotive industry and beyond. The company provides concepts, solutions, and methodologies in fields such as vehicle development and integration, e-mobility, automated and connected mobility (ADAS/AD), and software for a greener, safer, and better world of mobility.

About the Role

As a Battery System Design Engineer at AVL, you will become part of the development of tomorrow's electrified powertrains. The role combines practical work with battery design and pack development with a broad understanding of e-mobility and the integration of battery systems in modern vehicles.

Here, you will work hands-on with the development, verification, and integration of HV battery systems in a technically advanced environment where the battery is a central part of the electric powertrain. You will work closely with areas such as electric propulsion, HV systems, verification, and system integration, where the interaction between the battery, inverter, electric machine, and other vehicle functions is a crucial part of the development.

You will become part of an international competence network and simultaneously a key player in our local initiative within e-mobility and battery systems in Sweden. The role offers great opportunities to influence technical solutions, working methods, and customer projects in close collaboration with both local and global teams.

In the role of Battery System Design Engineer, you will work on the development and integration of battery systems for electrified vehicles, from early concepts and design solutions to verification, testing, and final product. The role combines practical engineering work in battery design and pack development with a broader system perspective within e-mobility and electric powertrains.

You will be involved in the development of battery modules and packs at the system level, where mechanical integration, function, verification, and quality are central parts of the work. A key part of the role is to analyze results from simulations and tests and translate these into technical improvements and robust design solutions.

The work also includes the construction, commissioning, and verification of battery systems prior to testing and delivery, as well as testing and validation of module and pack systems in vehicle-near applications. You will work closely with other disciplines within e-mobility, such as HV systems, electric propulsion, and system integration, where understanding the interaction between the battery, inverter, electric machine, and other vehicle functions is a vital part of the development.

The role also includes technical support in customer projects, review and release of technical documentation, and collaboration with AVL's global network within battery systems and e-mobility. You will also contribute to business development through technical expertise in quotation work and project proposals.

Your Profile

We are looking for someone with experience in battery system development who also has a broad interest and understanding of e-mobility and electrified powertrains.

We believe you have:

  • A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent
  • 3–5 years of experience in battery system development within the automotive or related industries
  • Practical experience in battery design at the module and pack level, including cooling and safety concepts (Thermal Propagation)
  • Experience in mechanical integration and design in a CAD environment
  • Good understanding of HV systems and relevant safety standards
  • Experience with CAD tools such as CATIA, Creo, or similar
  • Very good communication skills in Swedish and English
  • Valid driver's license (Category B)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in verification and testing of battery modules and packs
  • Experience in system integration within electrified vehicles
  • Experience from SOP projects

As a Person

As a person, you are technically curious, analytical, and solution-oriented. You thrive in a role where practical engineering work is combined with system understanding and cross-functional collaboration. You are self-motivated and responsible, while also appreciating working closely with other disciplines within e-mobility and product development.

You have the ability to switch between detailed focus and a holistic perspective and feel comfortable in technical dialogues both internally and with customers.

What We Offer

At AVL, you become part of a global technology company at the forefront of development, simulation, and testing for the mobility of the future. We work with advanced technology in electrification, software, autonomous driving, and energy-efficient powertrains, helping our customers develop the next generation of mobility solutions.

Here, you have the opportunity to work in technically advanced projects together with leading players in the automotive and e-mobility sectors – in an environment where innovation, collaboration, and technical development are at the center.

Interested?

Due to the upcoming holiday period, feedback on your application may take slightly longer, and you can expect a response in mid-August. If you find the position interesting, you are warmly welcome to submit your application today!

We look forward to receiving your application!
