Do you want to contribute to the language, knowledge, and identity development of multilingual students? The Child and Education Administration in Östersund Municipality is now seeking dedicated teachers in mother tongue and mother tongue study guidance who want to make a difference for children and young people.

We are looking for staff within the following languages:

  • Amharic/Oromo, 50%
  • Bengali, 75%
  • Bilen, 10%
  • Bulgarian, 15%
  • Burmese, 5%
  • Fur, 10%
  • Kurdish (from Turkey), 10%
  • Latvian, 15%
  • Norwegian, 30%
  • Portuguese, 25%
  • Punjabi (India), 5%
  • Slovenian, 15%
  • Tagalog, 5%
  • Czech, 5%
  • Urdu, 5%

The form and extent of employment vary depending on the language, student basis, as well as the applicant's education and competence. The form of employment can be permanent, fixed-term, or hourly, depending on the scope and conditions of the assignment.

About the Mother Tongue Unit

The Mother Tongue Unit is responsible for mother tongue instruction, mother tongue study guidance, and mother tongue support for multilingual children and students in Östersund Municipality.

Our mission is to strengthen students' language development, identity, and knowledge acquisition. Through instruction and study guidance, we contribute to creating good conditions for students to succeed in school and achieve their goals.

As an employee here, you will become part of a dedicated work team with educators from many different language and cultural backgrounds. Together, we work to provide the municipality's multilingual students with an equitable education.

The work may be located at several schools within the municipality, which means that travel between workplaces may occur during the workday.

Your new job

As a mother tongue teacher and mother tongue study guide, you work to support students' language and knowledge development.

You teach students in their mother tongue and/or provide study guidance in their mother tongue based on the school's steering documents and the students' individual needs.

The work involves close collaboration with class teachers and subject teachers to create the best conditions for the student's learning.

Common tasks

  • Plan, implement, document, and follow up on mother tongue instruction.
  • Provide mother tongue study guidance based on students' needs.
  • Collaborate with the school's educators regarding students' learning and development.
  • Grade according to current steering documents.
  • Contribute to the unit's development and quality work.
  • Participate in work team meetings and competence development.

Your competence

Requirements

  • Good knowledge of the Swedish language in speech and writing.
  • Knowledge of the relevant mother tongue at a native level.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with students, guardians, and school staff.
  • Good digital competence.

Merits

  • Teacher certification or teacher degree.
  • Qualification for teaching in mother tongue.
  • Experience with mother tongue instruction or study guidance.
  • Experience working in schools or preschools.
  • Experience with or good understanding of different education systems and the conditions of multilingual students.
  • Knowledge of the school's steering documents and work in a multilingual learning environment.

How the recruitment process works
