Resident Physician (Underläkare) for Adult Psychiatry Emergency Department, Akademiska Sjukhuset

We are Akademiska Sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Here, something is always happening – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. Here, you will experience both tough challenges and fantastic moments, within a strong community of colleagues. We welcome your application!

Our Operations

The Psychiatry Department at Akademiska Sjukhuset is organized into four subspecialized sections, where the Emergency Department for Adult Psychiatry and the Psychiatric Emergency Care Unit belong to the Acute and Consultative Psychiatry section. The Emergency Department for Adult Psychiatry provides 24/7 duty services and has overall responsibility for psychiatric emergency operations as well as consultative services for the rest of the hospital. The department also includes a Psychiatric Emergency Care Unit (PAVA) with twelve beds and the PAM unit, staffed by specialist nurses. We are looking for you, a licensed physician with an interest in emergency psychiatry. We can offer an stimulating workplace where the pace can sometimes be high, and no two days are alike.

We offer you the opportunity to work at a secure workplace that provides room for personal and professional development at both an individual and group level. We offer a pleasant work environment with continuous supervision, where we together ensure that patients receive the best possible care.

Your Role

Currently, the Psychiatry Department is undergoing a transition towards patient-centered care. In this work, the Emergency Department for Adult Psychiatry will launch a follow-up clinic, where individuals without prior contact with specialist psychiatry can be followed for a shorter period and receive crisis support, suicide prevention interventions, and undergo shorter assessments. For this position, we are looking for two resident physicians (underläkare) who, with the support of attending physicians, will run this clinic. The work includes, in addition to the assessments and interventions mentioned above, supervision of students, as well as routine work at the emergency department involving acute primary duty assessments, psychiatric and somatic examinations, medical record documentation, and feedback of assessments and actions to the nursing staff. An important part of the job is to coordinate cooperation with somatic care partners and organize follow-up of patients within primary care or specialist psychiatry, under supervision.

Working at the Emergency Department for Adult Psychiatry requires you to work efficiently, with clear goals, and to collaborate with various professional categories. All psychiatric conditions are encountered in daily work.

Your Qualifications and Competence

We are looking for you who have a Swedish medical license and a genuine interest in psychiatry. As a person, you are responsible, collegial, and stress-resistant. You have good communication and collaboration skills. Teamwork is an essential part of the position. Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written, is a requirement, minimum level C1.

We place great importance on personal qualities.

We Offer

We offer a fixed-term project appointment of 6 months with the possibility of extension. The position is full-time with working hours scheduled during the day, evening, and on-call duties. On-call service is included in the position.

Start date according to agreement.
