Our Operations

The Department of Geriatrics, Rehabilitation Medicine and Pain Centre is characterized by well-functioning multidisciplinary teams, which we are very proud of. Our department has a broad mandate where it is meaningful, exciting, and developing to work. There are good opportunities to participate in development work and research; in our work, we translate new knowledge into care.

Our Department

On the Geriatric Acute Care Unit 30A, the focus is on the elderly and frail individual. We provide medical acute care with a rehabilitative approach for elderly patients with complex disease conditions and care needs. As an experienced nurse, you will use your entire combined competence and experience around the patient. Geriatric care takes place based on a clear structure specifically adapted for the elderly patient and their needs.

Within geriatric care, teamwork is central; both the collaboration of the multiprofessional team and the patient's participation are important parts of the care. As a nurse on 30A, you constantly collaborate with others, thereby gaining broad knowledge in different areas and a holistic view of the patient with various needs. Approximately half of the patients come to the Geriatric Acute Care Unit via the Emergency Department, while the rest arrive via our direct intake (from ambulance or nearby care team) or via referral from other departments within the hospital.

Your Role

In geriatrics, we work with renewed methods such as daily steering, medical assessment, and CGA (Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment). The goal of these methods is to increase the quality of care by making the patient an active participant in their care and improving the work environment by ensuring the right person does the right things. This is ongoing work that develops and is evaluated continuously, and here you have the chance to contribute your knowledge and experience.

At our facility, new areas of responsibility have been developed based on the needs of the patient group. We have theme weeks with a focus on nursing to share knowledge and experiences, among other things. We are proud to have staff and management groups that prioritize nursing and, through clear but open leadership, allow everyone to voice their opinions and contribute to the development of the department. Together, we create a workplace where people thrive and feel proud.

As an experienced nurse, you have the opportunity to apply for specialized nurse education in elderly care and take it during working hours. We also have an internal training program built over 2 years and driven by experienced personnel in geriatrics, the Geriatric Academy. You can apply to the Geriatric Academy after working with us for 1 year; the program starts every other year and has 12 participants (both assistant nurses and nurses) from the geriatrics section.

Your Qualifications

You are an experienced nurse, preferably with experience in inpatient care. It is meritorious to have broad knowledge and skills in the area of nursing and person-centered care.

Your Competence

As a person, you are flexible in your work, with the ability to switch between an outcome focus and a task focus to provide the best and safest care for patients. You have the ability to see and work with people's resources and place emphasis on patients' health literacy, participation, and shared responsibility. You have the ability to collaborate in teams and wish to develop in a multiprofessional work group. You are solution-oriented in what you do and choose to work on stimulating, joyful, and developing workplaces with the aim of providing the best care for your patients. Step to the forefront, welcome to us!

What We Offer

We offer you a permanent full-time position with a start date as agreed. You can work 2-shift, 3-shift, or night shifts only.

All new employees receive an individually adapted introduction depending on previous experience. We use a clear introduction program with an introduction booklet, and there will be time allocated for mandatory e-Learning courses in the PingPong system, such as fire, threats and violence, safety, etc., during introduction and later in employment. New employees will be offered frequent follow-ups at intervals of 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months, as well as as needed. Here you will receive benefits that make a difference; read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/ (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/)).
