The Sterile Technology Unit, located at Visby Hospital, produces, supplies, and delivers medical technical products to approximately 60 customers within and outside the hospital organization. We primarily work with cleaning, disinfecting, inspecting, functional testing, maintenance, packing, and sterilizing instruments.

Currently, we have five permanent employees on the unit, but we aim to have seven. We are a forward-thinking unit that constantly works on quality and development within our specialties.

Your responsibilities

Since the Sterile Technology Unit lacks its own central dishwashing facility, sterile technicians from the surgical department assist on-site with cleaning and disinfecting instruments after surgeries. After cleaning and disinfection, the goods are sent to the Sterile Technology Unit via elevator.

The operations have various areas of responsibility. One area concerns sorting, where all goods not originating from surgery are received. In the packing room, instruments are checked, maintained, functionally tested, packed, and sterilized. The goods are stored in the sterile store or released to the customer. Surgery is also a separate area of responsibility.

The work also includes participating in various projects, procurements, and other tasks that normally fall within a sterile technician's duties.

As we are a small unit, flexibility and the ability to perform all tasks are required, which demands broad knowledge. There is independent work involved, and you will rotate weekly between areas of responsibility to create a varied work environment and maintain competence.

Who are you?

We would prefer that you have completed an instrument and sterile technology education with passing grades from a university college. Experience in sterile technology work or surgical operations is advantageous.

As heavy lifting occurs, good physical fitness is a prerequisite. You possess great flexibility and a good ability to find solutions. We prefer that you are service-oriented, have high work ethics, and a professional attitude, as we have close cooperation with our customers.

We are a certified operation where the quality system requires commitment from all employees. We use an electronic traceability system, so computer literacy is beneficial.

Meticulousness and stress tolerance are important traits. It is also important that you are honest and a good communicator. Since this is an emergency hospital, you should enjoy working in an organized manner and sometimes at a high pace.

Evening and night shifts, as well as solo work, may occur, where you need to be able to make your own decisions. It is important that you have strategic thinking with a broad perspective and understand how your actions affect the long term.

You should enjoy working in a small group where everyone depends on each other, being involved, driving, and appreciating a "high ceiling" culture (open and flat hierarchy).
