About CEDAR
The Unit for Demography and Ageing Research (CEDAR) is tasked with building, managing, and making demographic and historical databases accessible, conducting research on population and ageing, and working to strengthen the connections between teaching, research, and infrastructure at the university.
CEDAR is organized into three sections: one responsible for infrastructure and databases, one focused on research, and a support function that assists the other two. The unit also hosts two of the Swedish Research Council's national infrastructures, CORS and SwedPop. Approximately 46 staff members and 30 researchers work at CEDAR across our units in Haparanda, Jörn, or Umeå.

About the Position
We are looking for an Administrator to work with both administrative tasks and the extraction (excerption) of historical sources.
The position is full-time and permanent. A six-month probationary period may apply. The start date is 2026-09-01 or by agreement. The workplace is located in Haparanda or Jörn.
CEDAR's operational support covers two main areas: administrative support and IT operations and management. The support function focuses on the unit's shared tasks and goals and is conducted in a way that ensures research and infrastructure activities maintain high quality and achieve set operational objectives.
The section consists of six employees and is led by an Administrative Manager.
Job Responsibilities
As an Administrator, you will work close to the core operations in an academic environment and provide crucial support to the unit's staff and management. The tasks are varied and include, among other things:
- Supplier and customer accounts
- Accounting entries and reclassifications
- Purchases in accordance with current regulations
- Inventory and management of fixed asset registers
- Handling of time reporting, expense claims, honoraria, and other out-of-pocket expenses
- General ongoing office administration.
The position also includes work with data extraction (excerption), which involves interpreting, registering, and linking individual data from historical sources. The work primarily concerns church books from the 1700s, 1800s, and 1900s, although other types of sources may also be encountered.
Personal Qualities
Teamwork and co-creation are central values within CEDAR's operations. Therefore, we are looking for someone with good collaborative skills who is willing to share their experiences and knowledge. You are solution-oriented, responsible, and capable of taking initiative.
Qualifications
You have:
- A high school education or equivalent
- Good knowledge of Excel
- Strong digital competence and the ability to quickly learn new systems, such as financial administrative systems
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Strong communicative abilities
- The ability to work in a structured, service-oriented, and independent manner.
Merits
- Experience working in universities, higher education institutions, or other government agencies
- Experience with or knowledge of the financial system Raindance and the personnel system Primula
- Familiarity with and interest in history, church books, and population registration
- Proficiency in English.
