About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation, remand custody, and client transport.

Viskan Prison is a closed prison that began receiving inmates in March 2025. The largest professional group is prison officers, but healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production managers, and others also work here. Inmates are engaged in education, various treatment programs, or industrial production. Viskan Prison is most easily reached by car, and staff parking is available.

Job Description

As a psychologist at Viskan Prison, you will work with qualified psychological treatment in a socially vital operation. The role involves conducting clinical assessments, neuropsychiatric investigations, and individually adapted treatment interventions based on the clients' needs. You will encounter a broad and complex range of issues such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, substance abuse, personality disorders, and neuropsychiatric disabilities, making the work varied, developmental, and meaningful.

You will collaborate closely with nurses, doctors, psychiatrists, and other staff at the prison to strengthen the ability to meet the clients' psychological needs and prevent negative effects of deprivation of liberty. A key part of the role is to contribute to reduced risk of recidivism and increased receptivity to treatment. If necessary, you will also provide support and supervision to colleagues to promote a professional approach and increase knowledge of the clients' conditions.

The work is characterized by freedom under responsibility, where you independently plan and structure your interventions. You will receive regular supervision and introduction to the facility's security work, legislation, and regulations. Here you combine clinical expertise with a clear societal mission – in an environment where your competence makes a concrete difference.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who:

We are looking for someone who is secure, stable, and has good collaboration skills. You communicate clearly and adapt your way of conveying messages to the recipient. In your professional role, you must also have good judgment and integrity.

Requirements:

• Licensed psychologist according to the National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen)
• Experience working with and investigating neuropsychiatric conditions, often with comorbidity, such as substance abuse and personality disorders.
• Ability to communicate and express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish
• Swedish citizenship

It is also meritorious with:

• Familiarity with locked environments, such as SIS and LVM homes, inpatient care, Forensic Psychiatry, the Prison and Probation Service
• Experience in conducting trauma treatments
• Specialist training in clinical adult psychology, psychological treatment, or forensic psychology
