Cardiac Ward C4 is part of the internal medicine department, which also includes the general medicine ward, stroke ward, and geriatrics ward. C4 has two medical teams and three nursing teams. Cardiac Ward C4 has 15 care beds, all with private patient rooms. Two of these 15 beds are in High Intensity Acute Care (HIAC) wards. All patient rooms have cardiac monitoring, including arrhythmia or ischemia monitoring.
The most common diagnoses are Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS), cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure, post-operative care after CABG and pacemaker implantations, and pulmonary embolism. Patients admitted with ACS are treated here, where we have a close collaboration with New Karolinska Solna. Patients are flown to Stockholm, usually by helicopter, sometimes by Swedish Air Ambulance. This involves logistics with the hospital's planning unit and cardiology at NKS. If patients undergo PCI or CABG, they return to our ward for aftercare before discharge. It is unique to follow the patient's care journey in this way, and it is both exciting and educational.
A heart patient's condition can change rapidly! In such cases, quick action is required. We work with safe routines and have good cooperation with the emergency department and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Furthermore, we maintain close contact with ward coordinators, PEV, the cardiology outpatient clinic, and the ACS clinic.
Tasks not directly related to patient care are performed by other staff whenever possible.
Your Responsibilities
You are responsible for the patients in one of the nursing teams. At night, we consist of three nurses and one assistant nurse. In addition, the nurse's role includes standard tasks on a cardiology ward/HIAC.
We offer competence development in the form of a three-step education in cardiac care. The three steps consist of two to three days of training in Stockholm at different hospitals. The possibility of a study leave for specialist education in cardiac care can be discussed during employment.
Who are you?
You are a registered nurse. We consider it an advantage if you have experience or education in cardiology or emergency care.
Haven't worked in cardiology before but are curious and want to learn something new? You are also welcome to apply!
You enjoy working in a team and collaborating with the entire ward when the situation requires it. You are responsive and independent. Rapid changes in a heart patient's condition are common; flexibility and prioritization are part of our daily routine. You have a positive attitude towards ward work, as we rely on each other to provide professional cardiac care to the people of Gotland. Your willingness to develop and share your experiences is valued.
Personal suitability is given great weight.
