Svensk Luftambulans (SLA) provides advanced pre-hospital emergency care and intensive care. Using ambulance helicopters, we conduct transports from the scene of injury or illness to the appropriate level of care, as well as inter-hospital intensive care transports. Our flight operations are conducted as either Single Pilot with a HEMS Crew Member or Multi-Pilot under VFR day and night (with NVIS) and IFR conditions.

In addition to flight operations, SLA also runs its own flight school and maintenance activities.

We are looking for pilots for positions at our bases in Gällivare, Lycksele, Mora, and Karlstad.

The Role of Pilot

Pilots at SLA are responsible for the helicopter during both emergency missions (HEMS) and planned transports (Air Ambulance). We work with a strong sense of teamwork for the benefit of the patient. Therefore, it is important that you can build good and trusting relationships with your surroundings.

We are constantly developing, and you will become an important and appreciated piece of the puzzle in a crew. You need to be flexible in your work, as temporary assignments at other bases may occasionally occur.

The normal work schedule for pilots follows a 1:3 ratio, where one working day results in three days off. Typically, this applies to 5 working days followed by 15 days off.

Your Knowledge and Competencies

Basic requirements for applicants:

  • ATPL-H or CPL-H with ATPL theory
  • Medical Class 1
  • IR (Instrument Rating) Helicopter
  • 500 hours Helicopter
  • 300 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC) Helicopter
  • 25 hours night time Helicopter
  • Type rating on a turbine helicopter
  • Swedish LPR 5
  • English LPR 5

Additional requirements for Pilot in Command:

  • ATPL
  • 1500 hours Helicopter
  • 500 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC) Helicopter
  • 25 hours instrument time in operational service Helicopter
  • 50 hours night time Helicopter

Meritorious qualifications:

  • MCC (Multi-Crew Cooperation)
  • HEMS or SAR experience
  • NVIS (Night Vision Imaging System)
  • Multi-engine experience

As a pilot at a HEMS base, the pace can sometimes be high with long days or nights. This places demands on flexible, mature, and stable personalities accustomed to taking personal responsibility. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities.

    • Type rating SET or MET
    • IR(H) rating
    • ATPL theory (can be replaced by course certificate)
    • Optional MCC course (can be replaced by course certificate)
  • Medical Class 1 (pdf)
  • Copy of the latest page in the logbook summarized with flight hours (pdf)
  • Copy of the logbook showing PBN competency or alternative course certificate (pdf)
  • Extract from the police record of convictions.

Svensk Luftambulans will not process applications from candidates who do not meet the basic requirements.

The Recruitment Process

Interviews and tests will begin gradually, with the main focus from mid-August to September. The position is planned to start with training on January 1, 2027.

Employment

SLA offers favorable employment agreements with advantageous pension agreements and applies collective agreements for pilots in cooperation with Vision.

Svensk Luftambulans applies a 12-month probationary period due to the long training time.
