Job Description

We are looking for a student assistant (amanuens) to support the department's administrative work regarding education at the undergraduate and advanced levels. Today, the administrative team consists of approximately two education coordinator positions. Our student assistant will primarily work to support the education coordinators with administration.

Other administrative tasks may include:

  • Work at the student office, such as handling emails and phone calls, distributing exams and assignment submissions, ordering simple catering, room booking, etc.
  • Work in administrative systems, e.g., Ladok, UBAS, and Canvas
  • Administration of course evaluations
  • Administrative support to other staff within the administration
  • Other routine administration and archiving

Qualifications

According to Chapter 5, Section 10 of the Higher Education Ordinance (HF), a requirement for employment as a student assistant is that you are admitted to studies at the undergraduate or advanced level. To be employed as a student assistant, the candidate must be admitted to undergraduate or advanced level education at the Department of Human Geography and Economic Geography. Furthermore, experience in study administration is highly meritorious.

The role requires you to independently structure, plan, and handle educational administrative matters and systems, as well as possess good communication skills and the ability to collaborate closely with other colleagues within the administration. The role suits you if you are proactive, solution-oriented, and flexible, thrive with a high variation between routine tasks and more intensive periods, and have a strong service orientation. The employer considers it an advantage if you have previously worked with similar tasks at the university.

The work also requires good verbal and written expression skills in Swedish and English, as well as very good computer literacy and good knowledge of Excel.

Working hours may vary, so we consider it an advantage if you are flexible and can adjust your hours to the department's needs.

This is a fixed-term position, with an start date of 2026-09-01. The position ends on 2027-01-31. The extent is 20 %.

The Faculty of Social Sciences at Lund University is one of the country's leading knowledge centers for research and education within the social and behavioral sciences. The Department of Human Geography and Economic Geography at Lund University is a research-intensive academic unit within the Faculty of Social Sciences. It combines long academic traditions with modern and strongly internationalized research and education. The department offers a wide range of education at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels, including internationally oriented programs such as the Master's program in Human Geography.

The department has a diverse academic staff. The exact number of staff varies, but the department currently has 55–60 academic and administrative employees. The department educates approximately 400 full-time students in bachelor's and master's programs and has approximately 15 doctoral students.

The research environment is strongly focused on external funding and has been successful in competition at the national and European levels. The department's research and education activities have received very positive reviews in internal and external evaluations, placing it among Lund University's leading disciplinary environments.

According to the latest QS World University Rankings, Lund University is ranked 72nd globally and achieves strong positions at the subject level, including in areas related to human geography and environmental science.
