About the Position

Adult Education (Komvux) in Åre Municipality is a small operation centrally located in Järpen, with three teachers and approx. 60 students in the educational forms SFI (Swedish for Immigrants), Komvux at the basic level, and Komvux as adapted education.

Responsibilities

We are looking for an educated and licensed teacher with competence in SVA (Swedish as a Second Language), who thrives in a smaller organization where flexibility, collaboration, and needs-based teaching are central.

In your role as a teacher, you will work with the team to ensure quality in the pedagogical work. The role includes overall responsibility for the students' social and knowledge development. You are responsible for systematically documenting, analyzing, evaluating, and following up on student learning.

We are looking for someone who is curious and flexible and can cover several different teaching needs in the operation. The role involves being relationship-building and having the students' knowledge development as the primary focus. You alternate between teaching SVA at the basic level and are responsible for planning and implementing various orientation courses such as study techniques and digital literacy.

The position is varied and requires that you enjoy taking responsibility, planning, and implementing your own lesson structures, and meeting students in many different contexts. You are expected to collaborate closely with the principal, colleagues, the integration unit, and the labor market unit to plan and organize teaching interventions according to current needs in the municipality. You are also expected to assess and grade students' knowledge.

Examples of tasks:

• Teach SVA (Swedish as a Second Language) at the basic level.
• Plan and teach in special orientation courses such as study techniques and digital literacy.
• Support teaching in regular classrooms when needed.
• Work with individual study plans and individual setups, act as a Mentor/Coach for absenteeism, book individual meetings if necessary, and provide adapted lesson setups.
• Teaching in SFI and/or supporting existing SFI teaching, as well as teaching English, math, and social studies at the basic level may occur.
• Lead needs-based teaching groups in smaller formats. E.g., in the evenings, remotely for students with good study habits who find it difficult to study during the day due to work, out at workplaces within the municipality, in smaller teaching groups out in the villages, or with adapted content. E.g., Language café during school hours, Extra oral training in small groups, Digital tools, 10-15 min/day, Reading and writing study hall, Movement-promoting activities, try out different sports, or gym sessions, Workplace visits or similar.

Requirements

• Educated and licensed teacher with SVA competence.
• Good ability to build relationships and work solution-oriented.
• You can work independently, plan based on needs, and simultaneously work closely with colleagues and the principal.

Merits

• Experience of teaching workplace-adapted Swedish.
• Experience of teaching adult foreign-born students with low educational backgrounds.
