to apply for the job

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's leading universities. There are approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our strive to understand, explain, and improve our world and people's conditions.

Workplace Description

Our research group at the Department of Physics, Division of Combustion Physics, works with sustainable fuels for aviation applications. The development of new fuels that can replace fossil variants requires extensive testing and verification to ensure safety and environmental performance. The same applies to the applications where the new fuels are to be used. In this work, optical and laser-based measurement methods are used to characterize the fuels.

What We Offer

Lund University is a government agency, which means you receive special benefits, generous vacation time, and a favorable occupational pension.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The main tasks will consist of designing and conducting experimental studies on new prototype fuels as well as traditional fuels for reference purposes. Techniques such as laser-induced fluorescence, Mie scattering, spectrometry, and high-speed imaging are used for this. Parallel to the optical studies, analysis of emission formation and pressure oscillations is conducted. The applications span a wide range of burners, from small laminar laboratory burners all the way to full-scale aircraft engines. The work includes experimental planning, construction, execution, and result evaluation. The project is part of a larger European collaboration project with several external partners.

The project will largely be carried out at the Department of Physics and possibly have a smaller part located at the jet engine laboratory in Ljungbyhed.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • M.Sc. or equivalent in physics or a related field.
  • Experience in optical design and aligning/combining optical components.
  • Experience in using pulsed lasers as well as imaging optics and detectors.
  • Good skills in Matlab and/or Python programming.
  • Very good skills in English, both oral and written.

Merits for the position include:

  • Experience in using "structured illumination".
  • Interest and knowledge in spectroscopy.
  • Good collaboration skills will also be taken into consideration.

Other Information

The employment is a fixed-term appointment with 100% scope for 5 months, starting September 1, 2026.

How to Apply

The application should include a CV and a cover letter explaining why you are interested in the position and how the position matches your merits.
