35 Positions Available: Poll Worker in Avesta

You play a vital role in the democratic system. Do you want to have an active part in the implementation of the election and contribute to ensuring everything goes smoothly – from voting to vote counting?

On September 13th, there is an election for the Riksdag (Parliament), Region, and Municipal Council. We are now recruiting poll workers for Avesta Municipality's polling stations. As a poll worker, you will gain insight into how an election works in practice and contribute to ensuring the election is conducted in a correct, safe, and secure manner.

About the Assignment

As a poll worker, you are responsible for orderliness in and around the polling station. You greet voters, receive ballots, and ensure the process runs smoothly. The assignment includes providing good customer service, collaborating with colleagues, and working meticulously in all tasks. You are part of a team that collectively ensures the election is conducted in a legally secure manner.

Schedule and Duties:

• Election Day (Sept 13): Polling stations are open between 08:00 – 20:00. Afterward, you participate in the vote counting.
• Early Voting (Aug 26 – Sept 13): Locations are primarily open during daytime hours, but evening and weekend shifts are also available. Early voting is largely digital, so some computer experience is required.

Note: If you are employed by Avesta Municipality and scheduled to work on election day, you will be granted leave on Monday, September 14th, provided you would otherwise have been working that day.

The Process

1. You submit your application and answer a few questions. You also provide a reference.
2. We review applications continuously. If your application is relevant, we will primarily contact the reference you provided.
3. If offered the position of poll worker, we will contact you via email with information about the next steps and a link to our system where you register.

Qualifications

To be eligible for the position of poll worker, you must:

• Be at least 18 years old before election day.
• Participate in mandatory training prior to the election.
• Have good proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written.
• Maintain an impartial attitude and wear neutral clothing (e.g., no party symbols).

Previous experience as a poll worker or other election-related experience is meritorious. Knowledge of languages other than Swedish is also an advantage.

Requirements for the Assignment

The role of poll worker requires impartiality. This means you:

• Are not an elected official in Avesta Municipality, Region Dalarna, or the Swedish Riksdag.
• Do not have an active role in a political party related to the election.
• Do not express political opinions or influence voters during your service.

To work during the election, you must complete mandatory training. There is training for early voting and training for election day. The training consists of a digital part taking approximately 45 minutes, and an in-person session taking approximately 2 hours.

If you are to work both during early voting and on election day, you must attend both in-person training sessions, but only need to complete the digital training for early voting, followed by a short supplementary training for election day work.
