Microbiologist with Quality Control (QC) experience needed at CytaCoat AB!

About CytaCoat

CytaCoat AB is a private Swedish company founded by researchers from Karolinska Institutet and KTH, developing advanced coatings for medical technology products. The goal is to improve product performance by adding properties such as hydrophilic, antifouling, and biofilm-inhibiting surfaces that effectively counteract healthcare-associated infections. CytaCoat's technology is completely free from both antibiotics and heavy metals, enabling use without contributing to resistance development or irritation. The company currently focuses on collaborating with manufacturers of medical devices such as catheters and wound care products. Together with its partners, CytaCoat adapts the coating to specific customer needs. The company supports customers throughout the entire process, from development and manufacturing to the execution of clinical studies to demonstrate clinical effectiveness. The coatings are applied using UV-induced polymerization and wet-chemical dipping – methods designed with a focus on environmental friendliness and resource recycling. CytaCoat has its own laboratories for chemistry, microbiology, research and development, as well as production, located at the Karolinska University Hospital area in Solna.

CytaCoat is now expanding its team to support the setup of its production lines to manufacture and deliver coated medical technology products.

We are looking for someone who enjoys practical laboratory work and has a keen eye for detail. You are structured, organized, and capable of keeping accurate notes/protocols. You can work independently but also collaborate effectively in a small, interdisciplinary team.

Role Description

This is an excellent opportunity for a Microbiologist who appreciates practical laboratory work. You want to contribute to the establishment of microbiological quality control and environmental monitoring in an innovative medical technology company. As a QC Microbiologist, you will play a key role in ensuring the microbiological quality of CytaCoat's coated materials and production environment. You will perform microbiological tests, environmental monitoring, microbiological performance tests (biofilm analysis), data review, and documentation work to support manufacturing, product release, and continuous improvements. In this role, you will work closely with the Quality Assurance (QA), Production, and Research & Development (R&D) teams in a dynamic environment for medical device product development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or a related scientific field.
• At least 1+ years of experience in microbiological laboratory work.
• Experience working in ISO 13485, GMP, or other regulated environments.
• Understanding of microbiological techniques and methods.
• Fluent English in both speech and writing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with bioburden testing and environmental monitoring.
• Experience with deviation investigations, trend analysis, and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the development, verification, and optimization of microbiological methods.
• Support the implementation and improvement of environmental monitoring and contamination control programs.
• Contribute to continuous improvement activities within Quality Control (QC), Production, and R&D.
