About the Student Health Service

The Student Health Service in Smedjebacken Municipality supports the municipality's six primary school units and consists of medical, psychosocial, psychological, and social pedagogical competencies. Together, we work to promote students' health, learning, development, and attendance. The team includes three school nurses, three counselors, and two social pedagogues, one of whom works within the framework of a three-year project focused on school attendance. The school nurses are responsible for health talks, vaccinations, and medical follow-ups. The counselors contribute psychosocial competence and conversation support, while the social pedagogues work specifically to support student attendance and strengthen collaboration between school, student, and home.

As a school doctor, you will become an important part of the Student Health Service's medical effort. You will function as medical support for the school nurses and contribute with medical assessments, counseling, and collaboration in matters concerning students' health and schooling. The position is 10% of a full-time role. The Student Health Service is led by the Business Manager for Student Health, who also holds the role of school psychologist.

Job Responsibilities

As a school doctor, you contribute medical competence to the Student Health Service's medical effort. The assignment takes place in close collaboration with the school nurses and the rest of the Student Health Service. The assignment includes, among other things:

  • performing medical assessments during Individual Educational Plans (IEP) investigations and prior to ADHD/Autism spectrum disorder investigations
  • conducting growth, puberty, back, and other somatic assessments
  • assessing medical issues in cases of school absence
  • assessing and, if necessary, referring students with overweight/obesity
  • handling vaccination issues and planning vaccinations outside the regular child vaccination program
  • assessing the need for referral in cases such as scoliosis, hearing impairment, growth deviation, puberty deviation, or suspected medical/genetic cause of learning difficulties
  • providing medical support to the school nurses in their ongoing work
  • participating in Student Health Teams (EHT), collaboration meetings, or other student health forums as needed
  • providing counseling or internal training to Student Health Service staff and school staff
  • collaborating with, for example, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (BUP), habilitation, health centers, social services, and other relevant actors

You are responsible for ensuring that your medical assessments are carried out in a patient-safe, professional, and documented manner. • experience in other work with children and young people
  • specialist competence in child and adolescent medicine, general practice, school health care, or other relevant medical field

Personal Qualities

We are looking for someone who is confident in their profession and has a good ability to work independently, structured, and patient-safely. You can prioritize and give clear advice based on the needs of the Student Health Service and the school.

The role requires good collaboration skills and a consultative working method. You easily build trust in meetings with children, young people, guardians, and staff. We appreciate that you are receptive, analytical, and solution-oriented, and can contribute a medical perspective in the context of the school.

Since the assignment is limited in scope but involves several schools, you need to be flexible and clear in your working method.
