Specialist Physician for Insurance Medical Investigations (FMU) – Region Västerbotten

The Occupational and Behavioral Medicine Centre (AB-centrum) is a university healthcare unit whose overarching mission is to prevent, investigate, assess, and address work-, environment-, and lifestyle-related ill health. We also have an insurance medical mandate. AB-centrum is one of Region Västerbotten's largest R&D units, with research and teaching conducted in close collaboration with Umeå University.

AB-centrum is organized into four departments: Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Behavioral Medicine, Stress Rehabilitation, and the Insurance Medical Investigation Unit (FMU).

Job Description

In accordance with the Act on Insurance Medical Investigations (SFS 2018:744), the region is required to provide insurance medical investigations to the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan).

Within the FMU, we work with functional capacity assessments (AFU) using a standardized method defined by the Swedish Social Insurance Agency.

As a specialist physician with us, you will work with AFUs in an interdisciplinary team consisting of a psychologist, occupational therapist, and physiotherapist. The investigation should lead to a functional capacity profile that not only describes functional impairments and activity limitations but also highlights the insured person's remaining capacity for activity. The physician's role is clearly defined, and you will conduct physical meetings with the insured person.

Work on other departments within AB-centrum may occasionally occur.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a specialist physician in general medicine, psychiatry, or another suitable specialty relevant to the role. It is desirable that you have worked as a physician for a few years and have encountered individuals with complex issues involving pain, aches, and mental ill health.

The Swedish Social Insurance Agency's advanced training in insurance medicine is required to issue AFU statements and is offered if needed.

We value flexibility, structure, good teamwork skills, and the ability to see the human being as a whole. You thrive in team environments, as a large part of the role involves making assessments in collaboration with other professions.

You should have experience writing clear, well-founded written statements and be able to plan, structure, and execute your tasks within the planned investigation timeframe. You must have language skills equivalent to Swedish level C1.

The position can be performed on a full- or part-time basis and can be combined with other duties within Region Västerbotten. Personal suitability is highly valued.

Employment type: Permanent position.

You do not need to attach your medical license and specialist certificate, as we verify this with the National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen).

If your merits have not previously been assessed by experts, this must be done prior to commencement in accordance with the Ordinance (1998:1518) on eligibility for certain positions within healthcare.
