Department of Orthopedics and Hand Surgery

We are Akademiska Sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. Here, you will experience both tough trials and fantastic events, within a strong community of colleagues. We welcome your application!

Our Operations

The Department of Orthopedics and Hand Surgery has an exciting offer for you if you are interested in working within orthopedics.

On 70A, we primarily have an acute influx of patients who are cared for pre- and post-operatively for various types of fractures, i.e., injuries resulting from trauma. Some patients may, for example, have cut their hand at work, broken a bone on a ski trip, or been involved in a high-energy traffic accident. Other patients may have suffered a hip fracture after a fall on the same level or developed an infection requiring amputation. In this way, our patient demographic varies in terms of age and underlying diseases. We also have doctors with specialist competence in complex pelvic fractures and difficult hand surgical procedures, which means we receive patients from large parts of the country.

A large part of our planned care takes place on 70B. Here, we help patients with arthritis who need prosthetic replacement in the hip, knee, or shoulder joints. The acute influx consists mainly of patients with traumatic fractures of the spine and neck, large disc herniations requiring emergency surgery, or patients with infections that require surgical intervention in addition to antibiotic treatment. We have doctors who are highly specialized in prosthetic and spinal surgery, which means we also provide national and regional care here.

Lengths of stay vary and can range from one day to several weeks. We work in teams with professions such as: nurses, assistant nurses, pharmacists, curators, resident doctors, specialist doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and medical secretaries.

Here you can read some interviews from our employees about what it is like to work with us:

Here, you can expect varied work with challenging tasks.

Your Qualifications

You are a trained Assistant Nurse. Previous experience working on a hospital ward or in a care/residential facility is meritorious.

Your Competence

You put the patient first and are responsible and motivated in your work. If you are curious, proactive, flexible, and cooperative, this job is perfect for you!

Region Uppsala assigns all permanent staff for war service based on the needs of the total defense. This entails no obligations for the individual employee in peacetime but is solely a planning measure.

Before a decision on employment, checks of suspicion and criminal records are conducted for all job seekers who, in the sought position, may come to work within psychiatric care, habilitation, care of children and youth, or compulsory care for addicts, areas covered by optional record extracts. This thus applies to all who will work close to patients, even if the tasks at present are not intended to primarily involve work with the aforementioned patient groups.
