Just outside Malmö lies a leading paint company focused on innovation and sustainability. This facility is one of the largest in the Nordics for the development, manufacturing, marketing, and sales of paints for indoor and outdoor environments for consumers, customers, and industry. The operations consist mainly of two companies. AkzoNobel Industrial Coatings is a leader in the sales and manufacturing of paints and coatings for industrial surface treatment of wood products such as windows, doors, floors, and furniture. Some of their customers include IKEA, Montana, Inwido, and Tarkett. The second company, AkzoNobel Decorative Coatings, develops, manufactures, distributes, and sells paint, varnish, putty, and wood protection products to professional painters and consumers. The portfolio includes well-known brands such as Nordsjö, Sadolin, and Cuprinol.

What will you work with?

In this role, you will work with product development, technical investigations, and business-close support in collaboration with, among others, the production department, technicians, sales organization, and colleagues across Europe. The position is largely laboratory-based and includes both operational and project-based activities within several technologies, including solvent-borne, water-borne UV, and 100% UV.

You will work on everything from smaller projects and raw material issues to the implementation of solutions in production. The role involves broad responsibility with great variation in tasks and many contact points within the business.

Examples of tasks:

  • Plan, conduct, and coordinate laboratory experiments, as well as analyze and report results.
  • Participate in development projects related to new or modified products.
  • Work with raw material substitutions, rework plans, and product optimization.
  • Conduct technical investigations regarding product- and process-related issues.
  • Provide technical support to the factory and QC.
  • Contribute to implementation and scaling from lab to production.
  • Monitor raw materials and technological development in the field.
  • Further develop methods related to laboratory standards and 5S.

The position is a permanent full-time role where you report to the Team Leader Solution SB/UV R&D Wood Finishes. The role is based at our R&D center in Arlöv, just outside Malmö.

Who are you?

We are looking for you who appreciate a varied and business-close engineering role with many contact points. You enjoy working in the laboratory while collaborating with different functions within the organization, both locally and internationally. The role suits you if you are communicative, flexible, and have a practical and solution-oriented approach to work.

To thrive in this role, you need to have a technical interest and the ability to quickly get up to speed with new issues and methods. You are motivated by combining laboratory work with technical investigations, smaller projects, and support to the business.

We would like you to have:

  • A degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience in laboratory work within chemistry, product development, or process industry.
  • Ability to plan and drive your work independently.
  • Experience collaborating across multiple functions.
  • Fluency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

Meritorious:

  • Experience with UV technologies or work in the coatings/chemical industry.
  • Experience with scaling from lab to production.
  • Experience with quality work, laboratory standards, or 5S.
