Järfälla Language Centre is responsible for the reception of newly arrived students, mother tongue instruction, and study counseling in Järfälla Municipality. Here, you will be part of a staff group of approximately 60 people, most of whom work as both mother tongue teachers and study counselors.

Job Description

As a mother tongue teacher and study counselor, you will support students in their language and knowledge development using their mother tongue, acting as a cultural and linguistic bridge. You will do this, among other things, through close collaboration with the student's mentor and teaching teacher. You will deliver high-quality teaching and maintain an inclusive approach.

You will work with students of various ages. The position may be located at one or several school units.

Responsibilities include:

• Planning mother tongue instruction based on the course plan for the subject of mother tongue
• Planning study counseling based on the student's and subject's needs
• Planning your teaching in collaboration with subject teachers, mentors, and other pedagogical staff to meet the student's individual needs
• Using digital tools for both student learning and the planning and documentation of teaching
• Responsible for assessment and grading
• Reporting attendance
• Serving as the face of Järfälla Language Centre

Qualifications

We are looking for you who

• have the relevant language as your mother tongue or have documented good knowledge of the language
• have very good knowledge of Swedish and your mother tongue in both speech and writing
• have good knowledge of the culture and school systems in the countries from which the students come
• have good knowledge of Swedish culture and the Swedish school system
• are familiar with the Swedish school curriculum and other regulatory documents
• have teacher education or equivalent pedagogical education and experience
• have experience in mother tongue instruction and study counseling
• find it easy to interact with students individually and in groups and to build good relationships
• are proficient with computers
• are highly flexible and solution-oriented, as there may be rapid changes in assignments based on school needs
• are accustomed to taking significant personal responsibility and working independently

As a mother tongue teacher, you will encounter a large number of colleagues you need to collaborate with, including fellow mother tongue teachers and subject teachers at the schools. The ability to collaborate with all colleagues and other staff is a prerequisite for working with us.
