Culture and Leisure Administration seeks Music Teacher in Percussion (Temporary)

The Culture and Leisure Administration works to promote cultural and leisure activities in the municipality. We are a politically directed service organization where the residents are our clients. Together, we find new ideas and solutions that contribute to the residents' quality of life, sustainability, health, integration, and reduced social exclusion.

The administration consists of five operational areas:

• Culture School, youth culture, open youth activities, and leisure activities
• Leisure, sports, swimming hall, ice hall, and association activities
• Performing arts, film, theater, art, music, museum, library, cultural heritage, Finnish administrative area, and minority work

Sigtuna Culture School is a creative meeting place in the municipality and has approximately 30 teachers in music, dance, drama/theater, and visual arts, who teach children and young people aged 0–21. In addition to regular subject teaching, we conduct extensive outreach and open activities and collaborate with schools through companion teaching, culture pools, and culture classes. We use the StudyAlong platform.

Through the Culture School, we want to create good conditions for community, self-esteem, and development, and we work actively to remain relevant and current in a changing society. The Culture School is part of the Culture and Leisure Administration.

RESPONSIBILITIES

40% Music Teacher with percussion as main instrument, temporary position

You will be involved in driving the Culture School's teaching in percussion and ensemble, preferably with a special focus on ensemble playing and mallet instruments. There is another percussion colleague at the Culture School, and you will be part of a subject group together with teachers in percussion, guitar, and electric bass.

The position includes, among other things:

• Teaching children and young people in percussion, focusing on both drum kits and mallet instruments as well as other types of percussion.
• Leading ensembles for students with different skill levels and in different genres.
• Planning and conducting teaching, concerts, performances, holiday courses, and other outreach activities.
• Actively working with student recruitment and the Culture School's internal work and development.
• Handling some administrative work such as scheduling and managing StudyAlong.

The position is mainly located on weekdays and evenings, but work on weekends does occur.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Music Teacher degree with percussion as the main instrument, or other education deemed equivalent.
• Experience in teaching children and young people in percussion.
• High subject competence and musical breadth, from classical to pop/rock/jazz, is meritorious.
• Experience working in an administrative activity system for culture schools, e.g., StudyAlong or Speed Admin, is meritorious.

You are a person with good empathetic ability who finds it easy to build new relationships and is good at creating participation, engagement, and progression in your teaching.

You are curious and proactive, enjoy thinking outside the box, and find it easy to find solutions to problems.

As a person, you are structured, plan, and drive your work from start to finish, ensuring that what you start is completed.

Employment type: Fixed-term employment.
Duration: 6 months or longer.
