NU-sjukvården, part of the Region Västra Götaland, is one of Sweden's larger county hospitals, operating at NÄL in Trollhättan and Uddevalla Hospital. We serve a catchment area of 280,000 inhabitants and consist of approximately 5,000 employees dedicated to providing high-quality and safe specialist healthcare every day. Our West Coast location offers varied nature including sea, mountains, forests, and lakes.
The Department
Adult Psychiatry at NU-sjukvården is divided into four sections: general psychiatric inpatient care and emergency reception (Section 1), general psychiatric outpatient care (Section 2), forensic psychiatry (Section 3), and specialist and resident doctors (Section 4).
The Forensic Psychiatry unit at NU-sjukvården is located at Brinkåsen and comprises five inpatient wards and two shared forensic resource units. Our mission is to provide qualified care and rehabilitation to patients sentenced to forensic psychiatric care. The goal is for patients to feel better through treatment and support, and ultimately to live a functioning life in society without reoffending.
About the Role
Unhealthy lifestyles are a significant issue within forensic psychiatric care. Given that patients often have long care periods, the care environment becomes a central arena for establishing or changing lifestyle habits. To facilitate the integration of health promotion work into forensic inpatient care, we are launching a project position for a driven Health Educator. For this development work to have a real and lasting impact, we believe a dedicated role with a clear mandate and time to drive change alongside other professions is required.
Responsibilities
As a Health Educator, you will work systematically with mapping, planning, follow-up, and feedback. You will ensure that lifestyle habits are integrated into care plans, ward rounds, and daily nursing care. A key part of the role is acting as an active link between the activity house and the inpatient wards.
You will have significant opportunities to shape the role within the framework of this project, which includes:
- Developing and implementing methods to integrate lifestyle habits into the daily life of the wards.
- Supporting staff in conducting conversations about lifestyle and health as a natural part of care.
- Contributing to the inclusion of health-promoting perspectives in care plans and rehabilitation work.
- Stimulating voluntary participation in health-promoting activities.
- Working in line with the National Guidelines for Care of Unhealthy Lifestyle Habits (2024).
Qualifications
We are looking for you who are educated as a Health Educator. Experience from forensic psychiatry or general psychiatry is meritorious, as is a degree in nutrition science and a burning interest in lifestyle habits.
Personal Attributes
We seek someone who is receptive, comfortable working independently, yet skilled at building good collaborations both within the team and with external actors. You are structured, prioritize tasks effectively, and are proactive, especially when developing new methods in an environment where frameworks are still being defined.
Other Information
This is a fixed-term project appointment for 9 months with the possibility of extension. Interviews will be conducted continuously during the application period. For positions within psychiatry, we always require extracts from the Misconduct and Criminal Records, which is handled by the employer.

The position may be subject to a security classification. This means that security clearance and background checks may be conducted in accordance with the Security Protection Act prior to employment.
