Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation services, remand centers, and client transport.

Job Description

Working as a nurse within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service is one of the most multifaceted roles you can have. In our operations, you are the first point of medical contact: here you meet patients with complex needs where somatic issues, psychiatry, and substance abuse problems are often intertwined. This means you do not just treat individual symptoms, but look at the whole person in an environment that requires both medical sharpness and human maturity.

You make independent assessments of everything from acute infections to complex psychiatric conditions. Your expertise determines when a patient needs to be referred to our team of doctors, psychologists, or physiotherapists. You are responsible for the administration and handling of medications, both through dose dispensing and the preparation of dose packs. Medication management is a significant part of the weekly workload.

You and your colleagues are largely responsible for the operation of the healthcare service. This includes ordering supplies, sterilizing instruments, and handling sampling materials to be sent for analysis. You have a central and responsible role in the care logistics chain, where you create security for the patient through careful administration and medical coordination, based on both healthcare standards and the directives of the Prison and Probation Service.

Qualifications

Since the role involves significant personal responsibility and requires the ability to prioritize in the moment, we are looking for someone who is confident in their professional role. We are looking for you who possess clinical experience, having worked for at least a couple of years, and feel comfortable working independently and making your own assessments and prioritizations of patient care needs in situations where conditions can change quickly.

You need to be secure and stable, possessing the personal maturity required to work in a closed environment, and be able to maintain calmness and professionalism in all interactions. You are perceptive, skilled at collaboration, and building trust, while maintaining clear professional boundaries.

Furthermore, you are expected to contribute through your attitude to ensuring that everyone is treated equally. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Valid professional license as a nurse
• Work experience within the profession
• Ability to express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish

The following are also meritorious:

• A specialization or further education relevant to the employer, for example within psychiatry, emergency care, or outpatient care
• Relevant language skills
