Extensive research and teaching are conducted at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology at the Sahlgrenska Academy across broad fields of knowledge – from molecule to human. The department consists of five sections: pharmacology, physiology, health and rehabilitation, clinical neuroscience, and psychiatry and neurochemistry.

The Department of Neuroscience and Physiology is now seeking a talented and motivated postdoctoral researcher, placed within the Section of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry. The candidate will investigate molecular mechanisms in dementia diseases using zebrafish. The candidate will play a key role in a new cutting-edge research project.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include chemical and genetic manipulations of zebrafish. Additionally, the role involves animal behavior tests, histological and immunohistochemical methods, molecular biology, light and fluorescence microscopy, as well as image analysis. The candidate is expected to drive the project independently, develop methodologies, and compile data.

Qualifications

The applicant must have several years of experience working with molecular biological methods, as well as chemical and genetic modulation of both zebrafish and in vitro cultured cells. The ideal candidate has a background in neuroscience, good practical experience in analyzing microscopic images, and extensive experience in breeding and working with transgenic animals. The candidate must also have completed and passed a LAS (Animal Ethics) course focused on zebrafish.

Good collaboration and communication skills are required. Excellent oral and written proficiency in English is mandatory.

Personal suitability is highly valued.

Employment

The position is fixed-term for 6 months, 100% full-time, with placement at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology on a permanent basis. Start date: ASAP or as agreed.
