Librarian at Kungsholmen Gymnasium/Stockholm Music Gymnasium
Stockholm – our capital city of millions of dreams, expectations, and ambitions. We work for everyone who lives here today and in the future. Now we are looking for you who want to think big, new, and differently with us – for the people of Stockholm.
Welcome to us
Kungsholmen Gymnasium/Stockholm Music Gymnasium has approximately 1,300 students and just over 100 employees, of whom approximately 75 are teachers. We offer the Natural Science program, the Social Science program, the Humanities program, the Economics program, as well as language introduction.
Our vision is education for active impact in a globalized world, and our ambition is to develop students' knowledge and promote their readiness to meet future challenges. We want students to be able to take responsibility for and influence future societal development from a sustainable global perspective.
The school offers an exciting environment with its three sections; the Swedish section, the choir section, and the international section, which collaborate to form a whole. On the international section, the language of instruction is English, but we follow the Swedish curriculum. Music plays a significant role in our school, and the school's choir classes constitute an important institution in Stockholm's music life. Furthermore, we have a very active student union with a rich sports and club life.
Continuous systematic quality work and ongoing pedagogical development are underway at the school. For several years, we have had a specially designed organization for competence development.
Our school is characterized by diversity and tolerance, and we are ranked very highly by students regarding well-being and whether they would recommend their school to others.
Our teachers work in working groups, and our prioritized areas for development are:
- To realize the intention of Gy25 with a greater focus on teaching development.
- We collaborate to promote sustainable learning, through teaching that long-term and from a holistic perspective contributes to students being able to overview a larger field of knowledge and develop an increasingly scientific approach.
- The school is a learning and inclusive organization, an activity where both students and staff learn from each other, the outside world, and their experiences. We want to systematically develop teaching and other activities together.
- Communication for learning that leads to deeper learning, education, and understanding of other people's living conditions. Students' development towards the school's vision, curriculum, and examination goals.

Your Role
Kungsholmen Gymnasium/Stockholm Music Gymnasium is an exciting school with its three sections; the Swedish section, the choir section, and the international section. We want to live our vision "Education for active impact in a globalized world".
The library serves teachers and students with information search, teaching, and book purchases – both in English and Swedish. The library provides fiction as well as non-fiction used in connection with daily school work; as well as within students' various in-depth projects and in connection with the upper secondary thesis. As a librarian, you are responsible for running the school's library and developing its pedagogical activities.
You should have a broad range of working methods to promote all students' reading and knowledge development. As a librarian, you should also be able to work pedagogically with media and information literacy and digital competence; the work takes place in close collaboration with teacher working groups. This includes, among other things, teaching in source and search criticism as well as library and internet literacy.
In your professional practice, you will work to promote reading both independently and in collaboration with the school's other pedagogical staff. This includes, for example, literature presentations, book talks, and various activities to awaken and strengthen students' love of reading, where you will, among other things, lead book clubs. The position also includes supervising library staff.
As a librarian, you are expected to be an active part of the entire school's operational development with the aim of strengthening students' linguistic and digital competence. You are also expected to participate in the school's values work and support prioritized groups; you do this, among other things, by working actively for student influence and by being able to identify students who are in need of special support and extra adjustments. This may involve meeting the need for adapted media such as audiobooks and easy-to-read literature. The work towards other prioritized groups, such as multilingual students and students on the language introduction program, is also significant and should include making literature available in the mother tongue.
Your Competence and Experience
We are looking for you who have a degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent education. You must have documented ability to express yourself in both Swedish and English, as we have two working languages at the school. You should be able to teach information search in both languages. You should be driving in collaborations with teachers so that the competence in information search becomes a natural part of the students' education. You must have a flexible approach to the daily library work: shelving books and handling large amounts of book shipments are part of the job. The work is sometimes physically demanding.
Great importance is attached to personal qualities. You should be outgoing, service-oriented, and have good collaboration skills. Awareness of the outside world and development issues are important for the work. You have good knowledge within media and information literacy.
You can work independently and structured and have good collaboration skills. We would like you to have good leadership skills as you will conduct a large part of your pedagogical activities in different student groups.
It is meritorious if you have experience working as a school librarian and of teaching at the upper secondary level.
The City of Stockholm works with competence-based recruitment with the aim of considering each person's competence and thereby combating discrimination.
