More information about us can be found at: Department of Romance and Classical Studies (#).
Subject/Description
Academic education in Romance languages has been offered in Stockholm since the late 1920s. Less than ten years later, the first professorship in Romance languages was established in 1937. The undergraduate education at the Department of Romance Languages was divided into four languages during the 1960s: French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. This remains the case today: the subject of Italian is part of the Department of Romance and Classical Studies, where, alongside the aforementioned Romance languages, education and research in Greek, Latin, and Latin American studies are also included. The department constitutes a dynamic research and educational environment and currently has around 70 employees.
Over 700 students study Italian at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels each academic year at the Department of Romance and Classical Studies. Teaching and research in Italian are focused on literary studies, linguistics, second language acquisition, and older literature.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities consist of teaching at the undergraduate level across four modules: Oral Communication (Italian I), Written Production (Italian I), Written Production (Italian II), and Written Production (Italian III). Teaching responsibilities also include course coordination, course administration, and examination. Teaching takes place on campus and online.
Qualifications
To be eligible for appointment as an Assistant Professor in Italian, one must have completed a relevant higher education degree in Italian or another relevant subject at an advanced level, and demonstrated pedagogical competence. The applicant must have demonstrated pedagogical competence through teaching Italian as a foreign language at the university level.
As a general qualification requirement, one must possess both the ability to collaborate and the other abilities and suitability needed to perform the duties of the position well.
As a specific qualification requirement, the applicant must have documented very good proficiency in spoken and written Italian and good proficiency in Swedish.
Evaluation Criteria
Particular emphasis is placed on pedagogical competence. This competence should be demonstrated through documented experience in teaching and course development within relevant undergraduate courses. The competence must be well documented in a way that makes it possible to assess the quality of the pedagogical activities.
Great importance is also attached to knowledge of the Italian language.
In cases of otherwise equal qualifications, experience in second or foreign language teaching is considered a distinguishing factor.
The Department of Romance and Classical Studies will, in this recruitment, primarily consider the candidate who, after a holistic assessment of competence, qualifications, skills, and personal abilities, has the best prerequisites to carry out the current duties and contribute to the positive development of the operations.
Meritorious qualifications include experience in distance teaching and higher education pedagogical education of at least 15 higher education credits or equivalent knowledge acquired in other ways.
