You are part of the Högdalen work team of twelve people, but also part of the entire unit and the Stockholm City Library. You are creative, curious, and enjoy collaborating while taking initiative and working independently. You enjoy learning new things and are happy to jump in with tasks as they arise.
Our unit consists of seven libraries: Enskede, Hagsätra, Högdalen, Årsta, Älvsjö, Örby, and Östberga. The library staff member we are now looking for will have their main placement at Högdalen Library, but staffing and operations at other libraries in the unit may occur.

Stockholm City Library is introducing a new library and logistics system this year. All staff will receive training in the new system. Your role
We are looking for you who want to work as a substitute at Högdalen Library. You stay particularly up to date with literature and media for children and young people and have knowledge about the living conditions of children and youth. You have an inclusive attitude and find it easy to meet people in different situations. You enjoy collaborating while taking initiative and working independently. You enjoy learning new things and are happy to jump in with tasks as they arise.
Your task is to participate in the development of the library's and unit's children and youth activities, with a special focus on and dialogue with children and young people aged 10 and up. You work outwardly and proactively towards children and young people inside and outside the library, with fun and reading-stimulating activities such as next year's edition of "Läsa äger" (Reading Owns). You have contact with schools, youth clubs, youth centers, and other partners both internally and externally.
Your duties include staffing, working with the library's media, and creating and implementing reading-promoting programs and activities.
The duties also include performing administrative tasks related to the library's operations and providing support and assistance to library users for services and technology available through the library.
Your skills and experience
We are looking for you who have:
- Education in library and information science or other education that the employer deems equivalent
- Knowledge of methods in reading promotion, information, and literature mediation
- Knowledge of and ability to mediate and promote media and information literacy in a pedagogical way
- Experience using digital tools in the workplace, such as library systems or digital catalogs
- Basic IT competence, for example in the Office package and other relevant software
It is meritorious if you have:
- Experience working in a library
- Experience working outwardly and proactively with children and young people

- A strong service perspective – you always ensure our visitors get the best possible experience
- Initiative and collaboration skills – you take initiative and collaborate effectively with colleagues to achieve common goals
- A communicative and pedagogical approach – you have the ability to explain and convey information in a simple and clear way
- Ability to handle stressful situations – you keep your cool and work efficiently, even under pressure
- Responsibility and drive – you take responsibility for planning and implementing activities within the library's operations
- Creativity and development focus – you contribute new ideas and are engaged in developing the library's services and offerings
Other
Evening and weekend shifts are included in the position. Parts of the working time are scheduled. The work can be physically demanding at times when lifting and moving media.
The position is a fixed-term contract (substitute) during the period 2026-08-15 to 2027-07-11.
